I'm guessing they are all going to be single slot solutions but I was looking at the sapphire 6870s and 6950s and it looks like they are at least 9" to 10" long. Unfortunately my mATX has SATA places where the longest card I can probably fit in there has to be 8.5" or less. Since single slot cards are generally not top of the line these days I figure they will fall in the same price range anyway.

I need....

8.5" or shorter physically, single or dual slot.
2 DVI (2 monitors)
1 HDMI with sound (TV)

Used for...

Games (no FPS)
Movies

What are my choices if any?

GTX 460 without a doubt. The MSI Cyclone is under 8 inches too, btw. And I think the Palit has their connectors on the side/top of the card on their design, and not the end which will help too.

GTX 460 is slightly slower (not OCed) compared to 6850 right? I haven't looked at cards in a while, I'm still rocking 7900GS...

Near about all GTX cards being sold are factory overclocked which will put them even (and even the vanilla is only marginally slower by a few fps). They do draw a tad more power and you do need two 6pin connectors which is a down side to the 6850, but for your build the 460 would be best given your need for a shorter card.

About the same, no real difference, the gtx should overclock easily past 800 core though and be much faster.

Power shouldn't be an issue as it already has a 500watt PSU that's hardly running anything. on the nvidia site it says Audio Input for HDMI is internal, does that mean it needs some sort of audio cable to carry audio over HDMI? or is this some return channel? I don't need HDMI 1.4 like the 6850/70, just something to carry over a video/audio none 3D to a receiver.

that is the one I'm looking to get.
