It's a little lower on the clocks but not much. One thing I forgot to mention is quiet is a major driver for me.

Asus 780 DCUII OC, I chose it because it's both cooler than most and quieter (and overclock potential). Check out the reviews.

Any GTX780 can be overclocked beyond 1ghz, superclock is just a EVG marketing thing. If you get the ACX cooling you must have a side window with a big fan on the case.

If I were to do it all over I would just purchase the regular slot cooler.
At this point I think you should wait for the GTX880.

Lol, I have two in SLI and they haven't exploded yet without a "big fan on the case" yet. Not that I would recommend buying an ACX because there is this stupid warbling noise from the fans at certain RPM, but that's something not everyone can hear.

You shouldn't pay $500 for a 780, especially an EVGA one. The cooler is not quiet nor is it anything special. Get 780 Direct CU which goes for $436 and is cooler and quieter:

Other considerations are an after-market 290 which is at least as fast as a 780 at high resolution gaming OR wait a bit more for 970/980 which could launch as soon as 1-1.5 months from now.

From what i've read the MSI or Asus versions are great on temps/noise/clocks/oc

EVGA would be a great choice, for a couple reasons. Customer service being one, and their step-up program being another. Buy the 780 now, see what the next-gen cards bring in terms of performance, acoustics, and price. If you feel the need to upgrade, you can do so right through EVGA. This is assuming the new generation cards come within 90 days.

I have seen gtx 780 for $360 shipped. Buy a slightly used card and save more than $100 of your precious money

Another vote for asus. Seems like ASUS and MSI have really good cooling right now compared to noise levels

Odds are very high for new Nvidia card announcements in the next few weeks. Regardless of what you buy, waiting for that is probably wise - either you buy the new stuff, or you buy the old stuff that might get price drops.

There's a reason for the price drops - by the time the 880 is announced, you won't be able to buy a new 780/Ti. They are clearing out stock for the new model.

Thanks for the suggestions. I don't see the 880 starting anywhere near $500 but I think I will wait for the paper launch to make a decision on the card. And with all your suggestions, I'm more confused than when I started.

I'll probably wait a couple weeks and ask again what the best quiet $500 card is currently.
