Best gun to bag a reindeer?

I've been thinking I deserve more than just what Santa leaves me. This year I'm thinking of stocking up on bulk reindeer.

Now, I figure that its always reindeer season in my state since we don't actually have any reindeer, so there are no laws against shooting one.

So, what would be my best choice to put one thru the heart of Santa's flying alternator sized chunks of reindeer jerky?

Should I aim for Rudolf? Or is the nose just too easy a target?

The easiest way is a small surface-to-air missile, but that would taint the meat and it's not very sporting. A real hunter stalks and kills his prey with a traditional weapon. If you truly want to be a reindeer hunter get yourself a jet-pack and a spear.

.270 or bigger seems to be the smallest commonly recommended.

I'd go with a .308 probably if it were me... But, my ancestors were reindeer herders, so they didn't need to hunt them for the food/skin.

Use a knife on Santa (bullet shots might spook the reindeer and make them fly off). Wait until he comes down the chimney, then stab him a few times and slit the fat fuck's throat. Order a santa costume and then climb on your roof to open up on them with an AR15. Shoot Rudolph first and then the ones behind him so that the team can't fly off.

Put a out huge pot of beans, broccoli and cabbage for the reindeer. You'll have your heat source.

Some of these suggestions would certainly kill the reindeer, but what's the overall goal? Just to kill them, or to make meat?
Surface-to-air missiles will indeed stop the flight, but won't leave much usable meat.
30.06, .380, or .270 would be a much better choice if you want to fill the freezer with caribou. mmm-mmmm-mmmmmmm-mmm!

A shotgun works just fine, especially with deer slug, pretty much ANY rifle works, a .22LR will work just fine, they aren't that big.

Jack O'connor would undoubtedly recommend the venerable .270 Winchester. Of which I owned one.

Load up a Western case with 56 grains of IMR 4350 and it will give a 130 grain Sierra boattail spitzer somewhere north of 3150 fps. If you hold on a center chest hit you're good to go out to about 325 yards.
