I'm a huge Hackintosh fan (for desktops) but laptops are a huge PITA. Save yourself a lot of trouble and get a Macbook if you need a laptop running OSX.
Newer PC laptops just aren't likely to work- the graphics for one are rarely supported anymore. Even if you can find working graphics, something else critical is likely to be a huge PITA to hack, or not work at all, like sound, or wifi.
In the past, there used to be certain model laptops that made near perfect Hackintoshes (for example, the Dell Inspiron 1525.) But you'll find very few more current models that are.
I recently hacked a friend's Inspirion 1525 that he bought for $200, and put Lion 10.7.3 on it. The wifi didn't work, so I had to spend an extra $10 for the right Dell wireless card that's recognized OOB as an Airport card.
Other than that, it's a pretty decent OSX laptop for $210. Now, would I recommend it for video editing (which I assume you mean by editing)? No, not really. It runs Final Cut 7 perfectly, but I wouldn't do any major projects with it. It's an older dual core C2D at 2Ghz with 4GB of RAM. Any entry-level MacBook of today will smoke it.
If it were possible to get a brand new PC laptop for say, $400-$500 that was as straightforward to hack and made just as reliable a system, I'd say it might be worth it, but to my knowledge there is no such thing anymore.
So if you really want to get the job done, I'd say get a MacBook or stick with a desktop.
