Best hardware upgrade of your "career"?

Dual core and SSD are a toss up.

Going from a Phenom X4 9600 with a spindle drive to a Sandybridge with an SSD was the best upgrade ever for me. I think it was more extreme than my K6 to Thunderbird upgrade.

Hey, I really like that X4 9600 !!

Gotta agree on the SSD as an awesome upgrade, even tho I posted earlier in the thread that my first optical drive was a 'big deal' to me at the time.

haha, yeah I'm really glad your putting it to good use WT! :thumbsup: I'd have to say that was one of the most stable builds I ever had with that board and chip.

Anyways I bet it wasn't the X4 9600 to 2500K that made all the difference, im betting it was the SSD alone that did.

650MB??? How the hell do you expect me to fill up 650MB???

I remember thinking that any CD with a minimal amount of data could be written to - it didnt have to be a blank CD.

For a single part? It's a tie between adding a 8 MB Voodoo 2 3D card to my old Sony Pentium II machine in 1998, or replacing my fuzzy 19" 1440x900 widescreen LCD with a 24" 1920x1200 LCD in 2008.

THIS. I actually did the exact same thing (had a Sony Pentium II). I remember buying an older at the time voodoo2 1000, and firing up Half Life. Holy crap, did I not know what I was missing. I remember calling a friend of mine IMMEDIATELY and having him come over to take a look at it. Never realized how crappy software graphics was until I got to experience D3D, Glide, and OpenGL.... whew.
