I am searching for a not larger than 24 inch widescreen HDMI monitor and have yet to come up with one based on feedbacks at Newegg.

The dimensions of my open area of my desk are just under 19" H by 27" W. Thus the reason for the 24" Monitor.

I have an EVGA GTX 280 Video Card.

Any suggestions?

for $500, you can get a dell 2408wfp (when there's a sale).
my suggestion is get a Westinghouse l2410nm for <$300 on ebay.

i agree with him +1, Read the sticky here

http://forums.anandtech.com/me...=2049206&enterthread=y

it will explain the TN and IPS and all panel types, the short version is TN's are generally the best for gaming and the worst for graphics work, they have low input lag and fast response time hence why they are best for gaming. Any other panel will have better color definition and be better for graphics work but also alot higher input lag and response time making some of them really bad for gaming. So it depends on what it will be used for.

With a GTX280 I assume you'll be gaming, so forget the Dell. Either spend a bit more than $500 on the HP LP2475w or just get one of the much cheaper TN units.

Or wait and hope that Dell has a cheap 24" e-IPS coming.

The Westinghouse l2410nm has all the inputs you'll want (except for DVI but you are using hdmi anyway) and is a P-MVA panel, which is better than all those TN panels. So for <$300, it's a great deal on a quality monitor that'll output from any source you may have.

After doing a lot of looking, I decided on having the best of both worlds, since my desktop is not big enough for two monitors anyway and go with a high end 24 inch IPS panel. But even now am still seeking the best one for the money.

And I want to be able to game and photo edit as well as play Blu-Ray discs.

More help is appreciated. Thanks.

After reviewing everything and seeing that I want to be able to photo edit, watch Blu-Ray and game, I think I will go with the HP LP2475w.

Anyone have any objections?

Here is the link to the monitor on Newegg:

The specs show it has one HDMI and 2 DVI hookups. My video card has HDMI. See above for the hardward on Video Card and Blu-Ray Player.

As far as HDMI vs DVI? Don't know. I do know for home entertainment HDMI is better than component. I would have to research this to know.

It is currently $549.99 with free shipping and the extended warranty is $79.99 for three years. Service Net PC Peripheral Extended Warranty Plan

I looked on Ebay and found it at $564 with free shipping with 8% discount (ebay is offering coupon discounts until June 30, 2009) at $518.80 but the stock factory 3 warranty only. Seller only offers 7 day money back gurantee.

Basically, HDMI is derived from its predecessor DVI and, therefore, has more bandwidth and also can carry an audio signal. Not that it will be an issue as I am only using it for video to my monitor.

Then why do you want HDMI? Are you plugging a Blu-ray player directly into the monitor?

Well DVI can run a resolution greater than HDMI either way and as long as your monitor is 1080P and you can run that then you would be fine.

It would be really cool to pair the monitor with a console and maybe a Blu-Ray player?

The connection does not matter if you're not running a resolution in excess of 1920x1200 on a single link and you don't need audio transported on the same cable. Last time I checked, the EVGA GTX 280 does not have HDMI ports so you'd have to use an adapter anyway. OP should not pigeonhole himself into getting an HDMI monitor unless he's plugging in a different source like a console.

I would hope that I am not pigeon holing myself. The Geforce GTX 280 PCI-E 2.0 sitting in front of me has an HDMI interface.

The package contains the following:

EVGA GTX 280 graphics card
EVGA driver/software CD with EVGA Precision
(1) DVI to VGA adapter
(1) 6 pin PCI-E power cable
(1) 8 pin PCI-E power cable
(1) HDMI Adapter

So that sounds to me that the output is DVI but has the adapter for both VGA and HDMI. In either case the output will work. I can either go straight DVI to DVI input on the monitor or use the HDMI for either an output to the monitor or to a TV. Not sure if it will do both at the same time.

The blu-ray player is internal to the case.

Yes, that's what I meant indeed.

Yeah, exactly. Your card has DVI output and you can basically get a monitor with any type of connection since you have the appropriate adapters. That's why I'm wondering why you're asking specifically for an HDMI monitor if you don't intend at this time to use a source with built-in HDMI outputs.

Not that there's anything wrong with the models you picked out, or that they wouldn't work with their card. Can't fault the choices or advice so far.

I was going off of the fact that video card box was clearly promoting HDMI hook up and, therefore, was seeking a monitor to hook up the HDMI. I have been out of building for a long while, so I am getting back to getting my feet wet again.

Thanks for all the help. I now know what I am doing as far as the monitor goes.

I think I will still go with the HP LP2475w as it covers everything I need it to do. I just need to figure out who has the best deal and best warranty.
