In need of some new Headphones. Will be used for listening to music, movies, and gaming. I want to keep it under $80. Surround sound would be great but not really necessary.

Gonna be used with a HP Pavilion G7-2251dx and Google Nexus 4

Headphones i have looked at:

Sennheiser HD 201 3.5mm/ 6.3mm Connector Around-Ear Hi-fi Headphone

Sennheiser HD 202 II 3.5mm/ 6.3mm Connector Semi-Circumaural Dynamic Hi-fi Headphone

Sennheiser HD205-II 3.5mm/ 6.3mm Connector Circumaural DJ Headphones - Rotatable Ear Cup

this ignores your price limit but these are worth every penny.
the sound is incredible.
the battery life is beyond anything you'd ever need.
the range is phenomenal...you can walk all over the house and keep listening.
cordless advantage you might not have considered... no annoying chord vibration sound from the cord rubbing on things.
comfort... most comfprtable headphones i've ever owned.

these things are just one of those purchases that you would never ever regret

Sounds amazing but that's way to high for me

I just got Sony MDR-V6 for $59.95 and I really like it. I like it better than the Sennheiser HD-280 Pro I was using before. It's more comfortable, looks better, and cheaper than the HD-280.

Nope. It certainly matters in sheer design and to some extent capabilities, but its really only one of the things that go the end result of a headphone. The headphone chamber design, orientation, driver matching, etc, make much larger differences.

So which headphones would you recommend ?

Sub-$100 recommendations from me have solidly been the Monoprice 8283 for budget conscious modern music oriented cans, or Sony MDR-V6's for those wanting a more neutral headphone, slightly improved sound, and are willing to pay 3x the price for it.

Spend some time to read http://www.head-fi.org/

Different people like different sound..etc.../some could recommend headphones that he likes, but you won't like...

On head-fi.or there are reviews of many different headphones or Earphones...

Read carefully and decide what do you want...

At that price, I was really happy with the Sennheiser HD429/439/449 line.

The Monoprice headphones are surprisingly good too, if you don't mind a bass-heavy sound.

I like bass so I just ordered a set. Either Ill return my current set and keep these or scrub the mono price logo and give them to my kid.

it doesn't matter how good the headphone sound if they aren't comfortable to you. You really need to go out and try for yourself.

Grado SR60i or SR80i. Both sound fantastic; audiophile grade. You have to like the open cup design though.

You'd do well with the Monoprice cans, I have them and a pair of semi expensive A-T's, and compared to them and mid grade Senns I used to have I found them to be a very good deal.

Edit: plus they come with a nice long cord along with the thinner 4-5 foot one.

I don't get the raves the monoprice cans get - I have them and my jvc (rx700?) didn't cost that much more and sound amazingly better. The monoprice set isn't bad, don't get me wrong - but there are quite a few sub $100 (and many sub-$50) head phones that sound much better. The rx700s are huge so, if you want something smaller I like the creative aurva's that use denon drivers... Any Senn. in your budget will suit you better than the monoprice headphones. I also love grados (sr60 i think is in your price range), certain sonys (i forget the models), and JVC has become my go to for cheap but good..

By the way, I love monoprice - I just think these headphones are terribly over rated

Yes there are much better out there, but for less than 30 shipped I haven't run across its equal or better (yet, but not actively looking)

It's not forgiving of a bad recording, sometimes the bass can be a bit muddy, and has some annoying sibilance at louder volumes.

I bought my son a ridiculously overpriced pair of Ludicrous Souls two Christmas's ago and he likes the Monoprice better than those over rated clamshells.
