After all the input I'll get the pc 155 or the pc 165 (if its pads go around the ear not on top)...thanks for much explanation.

Here in Taiwan...getting hd 555 + soundcard + mic will be just a bit more than pc 155 ($140-$150). Since I'll only play games (no music/movies) with the headset...it seems to suffice gaming needs.

I'm not sure what an Icemat Siberia is, but Zalman has a nice clip-on mic for a good price.

I vote Grado SR-60! They may not be for everyone, but I love mine, and found them really useful when I used to play The Specialist mod for Half-Life - they're a fairly clear set of headphones, so I'm able to hear footsteps and gunshots very well.

No good if you want sound isolation, though, and they don't come with a mic, but they're very nice headphones.

interesting. any good online stores that stock it?

and the icemat siberia is a half decent headphone/mic combo that is targeted at gamers. basically normal headphones with separate clip on mic. never tried one myself though, but reviews are ok. http://www.bjorn3d.com/read.php?cID=773

I would caution against going Sennheiser...the cords on them are very flimsy...I don't know about the rest of you, but I always have problems with my headphone cord getting tangled in the wheels of my desk chair, or wrapped around the arms of my desk chair...I have had two pairs of Sennheisers die on me because I accidentally ran over the headphone cord with my desk chair, and it somehow severed the connection...after doing some research online, this is apparently not an uncommon problem.

I ended up going with a pair of Ultrasone HFI-15Gs after seeing a positive review for them in PC Gamer...extremely comfortable, and satisfy a diverse range of functions from gaming to music.

Here you go. If price means nothing to you try these headphones on for size, they retail for about 5 thousand. For 4-5 Grand I'd rather have an uber new gaming rig and a pair of 150 dollar headphones instead

LOL the best part about the sony headphones is that they have a vacuum toob amp. I am pretty sure I would feel wierd hooking up anything that has to do with a vacuum to my ears... I mean haven;t you guys seen the princess bride - that guy (wesley) gets 50 years taken off his life with some ear phones...

If I could get a pair at a decent price, I would probably go with the new HDM280Pros from Sennheiser.. these are new and have a mic. They are hard to find and pretty expensive when I was able to find a dealer carrying them.

They're the same as the HD280Pros but with a mic. I have had a pair of the HD280Pros which are a closed ear design for years. They are comfortable for hours of use but I miss the mic so I have to put my mic stand on my desk to game. After breaking them in, they sound awesome.

Vacuume tubes make it sound warm, kinda like the old school radios, you would have to hear one to know what I am talking about I guess...

I'm in the market for some headphones too...Not a headset, I hate having a mic attached.

Please ppl don't post headphones that cost $81+. The OP said UP TO $75.

What about KOSS? Any of these look good?

Just save some money and buy the Sennheiser HMD280-pro. They offer the best sound issolation, great Sound quality, and an integrated mic. I know ppl here will recomend brands that know nothing about sound and headphones. The HMD280 should run for about $210. but its not sold everywhere.

I have the MDR-V600s and the HD580s (baby brother to the HD600s). I don't own an amp, so I'll take the Sonys nearly any day of the week over the Sennheisers. Sound isolation and much lower impedence makes the Sonys sound much better with what I drive them with (laptop, inexpensive Denon receiver, portable MP3 players). I find the Sonys' headband more comfortable over a long period of time than the Senns'.

The Sennheisers are more detailed, but they're not suitable for higher volume listening, which is what I prefer most of the time.

Your brain WILL adjust to anything it hears, so even something with horrible imaging will work as well as 5.1 speakers given enough time (so long as there's ANY sort of definition between one direction and another). Something with adequate or good+ imaging, like the vast majority of decent headphones, will take very little time to adjust to, and you'll get something more versatile overall too.

I agree. I'm just as good at CS:S when I'm using my Klipsh Promedia 5.1 system as I am using my 9+ yrs. old headphones (KOSS TD-61) which you can now get for about $15-$20.

If you can solder at all, you can try DIYing your own cable, I fixed mine by myself. Otherwise there are many skillful DIYers at head-fi who could assist you with that at a minimal cost for their labor. In fact, many people consider cable replacement a must have upgrade for most higher priced sennheiser lineup including HD25 and HD580/600/650. Aftermarket cable buisness is fairly sized with 5-6 different brands competing against each other.

Liking or disliking sonic signature is a whole different matter from measuring numerical measurements, and we are all entitled to our opinions. HD580/600/650 were never designed with isolation in mind as they are open headphones, so isolation is rightfuly not there. most people will agree you absolutely do need some half decent amp for these cans to sing. There are people arguing all you need is impedance matching and power, but none of those people I came across actually tried quality amplification themselves, so the truth is out there. Hearing is believing, and I used to think my cmoy was unbelivably good 5 years ago.

Nowadays, head-fi is torn between people who prefer sony's new flagship model, SA-5000, and those who prefer HD-650. There are other phones that are known for their unique appeal, but these two phones get most attention in the mid-fi segment. That being said, I clearly prefer my HD-650 over my CD-3000 I have been trying to ditch. Your V6 is definitely outclassed in objective terms, although you may prefer it personally (and thats perfectly fine).

EDIT : oops, sorry. I missed the "no amp" part... all i can say is my hd580 too did sound ****** straight out of sound blaster I used to have back then. not really a apples to oranges comparison tho as I have a much better source now.
