Best heatsink/fan for 1.4 t-bird

I recently picked up a 1.4 athlon thunderbird cpu and intend to use it in an abit kt7a raid board which currently has an 800 tbird and a chrome orb fan.
Which heatsink/fan would be best to use,I like the volcano 9 but am not sure if it's compatible.

Sounds like you aren't going to be doing much or any overclocking. The 1.4 T-bird is a pretty hot chip, but I don't think you really need a massive heatsink for it. Go to SVC and get the GC-68 heatsink fan. It should be pretty cheap and it comes with an 80mm ball-bearing fan. As long as it fits on your mobo (email SVC and they can prolly tell you) it will work well. It's fairly quiet and will give you decent temps. Best of all, it's cheap.

Easy choice... Get the SK6+ from SVC and slap a 92mm fan on it

I will be overclocking it,the 800 is currently running at 952(limited by crappy memory)
Will your suggestions still be adequate for the job?
I really like the idea of having control of the fan speed,if the volcano 9 isn't compatible are there any other fans that come with that option?

The SK6 would work just fine on the KT7A raid board... Also if you get an 80mm or 92mm fan w/adapter get a fan control and get the good balance between noise (you can tolerate) and good cooling flow... The 1.4 Tbirds ran very warm but with good case cooling and the right HS/fan you should find it no problem...

The SK6+ that I'm using has been lapped and uses a nice quiet fan. That 92mm fan just washes air over the whole area.
These 92mm Zalman fans are a great balance between flow & noise. With the inline resistor they flow 38 cfm at only 20 dBA. That balance is hard to beat for only $5.99 + shipping!
The SK6+ is a massive chunk of CPU cooling, copper goodness.

BTW, make sure and use some AS III during assembly.
