I have an amd Xp 2600+, asus a7n8x-e delux mobo, and i am going to upgrade from stock cooling to a better air cooling heatsink, so far the best heatsink i have found is the Thermalright SP-97 with a 92mm tornado (connected to a fan conntroller). any help in finding a better heatsink would be apreciated, thanks:beer:

Thermalright makes the best heatsinks available. They are expensive, but for a reason. That Zalman heatsink is not going to cool as well, but it will be very quiet. Of course, you can put whatever fan you want on the Thermalright. If noise is an issue, then get a lower RPM 92mm fan and you will have a powerful, yet quiet, cooling solution.

Why is the SLK-947U better than the SP-97? Not saying it isn't, just curious...

As far as noise goes, I replaced an 80mm Tornado on my SLK-800-U for a Thermaltake Smart Fan II which has a temp probe that attaches to the CPU that increases the RPM's as the heat increases. It works great and is a lot less noisy than the Tornado. I'm not sure if you've ever had a Tornado in your PC before, but it is loud!

I have a SP-97 with a Panaflo H1A 92mm, and its quiet and cool. My 2600+ Barton runs at 2185Hz with idle temps around 40C and 45C at full load.

well to be honus the SLK-947U and SP-97 are very close in performence more like equal. For noise I have the Tornado's 80mm, 92mm and TT smartfan II they are very close in noise level, but the 92mm tornado is the loudess.
If you ever buy the SLK or the SP heatsinks try both fans (tornado and smartfan) and use the one that performs better

The retail sink that comes with the Barton is decent for the price. For running stock speeds, they do well. If I was to OC again, I'd go with the AXL800 for value, performance, and weight.
