Price doesnt matter, it needs to be quiet but cool good, i will be overclocking. Id lake it to be able to take any fan because i want to keep it quiet. Ill probally put a panaflo on it.

I got a Thermaltake Volcano 12. Solid copper bottom (square) with large copper fins and on top a fan with three blades. I didn't use the thermal RPM control but rather the manual and set it to its lowest setting, which is 2000 rounds per minute. It is then quieter than my power supply. Temperatures don't rise above 55°C (the CPU is a slightly overclocked Sempron 3000+ at 2.16 GHz).

I believe the general idea is to get a cooler with a fan that has only a few blades since it then produces less noise (and the bigger the better). The material is important for the cooling. Copper is better then aluminium and the form should probably be a simple one. Then it is cheaper and less likely to have faults or to fall apart ...

that volcano 12 is amazing for the money, esp considering the quality of the fan, but its over 700grams and still clips onto the socket itself. a little scary. the fan is also horribly loud.

however it is a fantastic heatsink buck for buck.

Volcano 12 is entry level HS.

The best out there is the SP-97 with a Vantec Tornado 92mm Fan for max cooling and a Panaflo Low Speed for quiet.

The SI isn't as good as the SP. The SP is all copper and IIRC has another Heatpipe. Even the SLK-947U is better than the SI.

The SI does beat the SP under a low speed fan per OP preference.

IIRC, the SP is being phased out by the SI. If OTOH you can still find the SP-97 & don't mind the weight (copper), there you go.

Even the SLK-947U is better than the SI.
Is it still being sold?
I'm not sure... I do know that with a standard Coolermaster Fan strapped to mine I never go about 45C load... so the 947u is prett decent in my opinion if you can find it in stock... or at all

it performed better than my current SP-97(significantly), but it was also much louder, 74CFM vs a 50CFM Delta. i wouldn't deem it entry level, it merely needs airflow, it takes a huge dump though with low CFM, thermalrights do much, much better with low noise/airflow.

You are comparing a 74 CFM to a 50CFM. No kidding the other is going to do better. BUt at same speed fans the Thermaltake will get crushed. The Thermalrights and Zalmans are FAR better than the Thermaltakes. Yes i have owned Thermaltake before.
