Just curious what gets the best results since there are so many complaints about the stock heatsink and fan.

Thanks.

Please also note if it comes with a fan or requires a fan to work properly.

I like my Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro for my conroe. It idles at around 30 degrees and hardly climbs when I'm gaming. I think the highest temperature I've seen is around 35 degrees, but I'm not entirely sure on that.

Are you overclocking at all? I want to start overclocking, but the stock Intel HSF sucks too badly and I'm considering the freezer 7 pro.

The Thermalright Ultra-120 is great because you can pick your fan to go with it. You want quiet get a Yate Loon. You want performance and don't mind a little noise get a Panaflo. It isprobably more expensive though. Scythe also accepts a 3rd party fan if you choose to replace the stock fan.

The Tuniq Tower 120 is probably a little better than the Ultra-120 but it's unavailable at the present time. Scythe Infinity or Ninja is also a good choice, but I prefer the bolt down method of securing a HSF to a mobo and Scythe uses push pin. Some people are fine with the push pins though.

From what I have heard (and from what pm posted) the Scythe Infinity is very silent, though very difficult to install. I don't think anybody's officially unseated the Tuniq Tower 120 as the best HSF performance-wise yet, though several units come close. Good luck getting a Tuniq Tower 120 though.

I have the big typhoon on mine and it is fairly quiet and is nice and cool... Depending on room temps, it is normally idle around 34 to 36. I don't remember exactly what it is under a load, but I don't remember seeing it high than 45... Also, I have my e6400 running at 3.2ghz.

I just ran 3dmark06 to check what the temps would go up to, it didn't go over 40. I'm not sure how much stress that puts on it, but I think it would be a fair amount.

What are your Coretemp temperatures? What are you using to measure?

Tuniq and Scythe Infinity, IMO. I get 25C idle and 45C load 3.5ghz @ 1.55v

What are u using to measure the temps?

So the 45C load is with CoreTemp?? That's extremely good. My E6400 @ 3.4GHz idles at 52C with a Big Typhoon in an Antec P180 case with it closed. And I reseated and tightened down a lot. WIth the case open it goes down to about 46C idle.

I am using a Scythe Infinity and although I have yet to seriously push my e6600 it does much better at cooling than my Zalman 9500,

yeah. I lapped both my processor and heatsink to 2000 grit with a half pea sized amount of AS5. I made a hole right above the CPU and have a thick 120mm fan helping with cool air flow.

I like my AMD standard 4-heatpiped heatsink, but I'm thinking of getting another HSF.. Big Typhoon or Zalman it'll be. Probably the CNPS8000 or the CNPS9500.

I'm currently using a Zalman CNPS9500 LED, with decent results.

Setup: E6600/P5WDH @ 333 (3GHz) 1.35 vcore
Cooling: Zalman CNPS9500 LED @ 2400 rpm

Idle temps:
CPU: 28C
Core1: 44C
Core2: 45C
Mobo: 39C

Load (TAT 100%) temps:
CPU: 44C
Core1: 65C
Core2: 65C
Mobo: 42C

Ambient room: ~21C

Setup: E6700/DFI Infinity @ stock (2.67GHz)
Cooling: Scythe Infinity

Measured with DFI's utility "Smartguardian". Measured results at idle match with BIOS numbers, also Speedfan gives same numbers.

Idle temps:
Core CPU: 29C
System: 27C
Mobo NB: 52C

Load (Measured after 2 hours continuous running Orthos -blend)
CPU Core: 42C
System: 36C
Mobo NB: 57C

Ambient room: ~17C (my basement...)

The Scythe Infinity fan speed at load is ~1250rpm... so quiet that it's inaudible.

Damn, 52C and 57C for your northbridge? Are those temps accurate?
I had a feeling someone would mention that. Not "wow. 42C core is pretty good after running Orthos -blend for two hours" but "wow, your NB temp is high."

Yeah, I think it is right. It's a passively cooled NB. I just touched it now and the heatsink is definitely in the 40's (based the fact that it felt pretty darn hot)... so I can believe 57C as the NB die temp. I'm not overclocking and my systems been running 24/7 pretty much from the first time that I powered it on with not even a hint of instability. I'm not sure how worried I am about it... although I'll admit that it's definitely not a good thing. My systems so quiet... I don't want to put a fan on the NB... but I might.

The main reason why your NB temp made me do a double-take is precisely because you aren't overclocking. How hot is the NB on a board gonna get, even with a fan, if you run it at 450-500 mhz FSB?

btw, nice temps on CPU, but even still, the NB temp really caught my eye.
