I never tried the SLK 900 as of yet,but I did have an SLK 800 and it was very good.I also like the Alpha Pal 8942T for P4 CPU's.Never tried the AMD version Alpha Pal 8045 but I hear its good and basically the same as the P4 one. Some motherboards read higher temps so you would have to actually test both on the same rig.

imo, it's the SLK-900U
it should provide better performance than the MCX 462+

Is the SLK900U passive or do you have to stick on active cooling on top. Its a monster of a heatsink.

SLK 900 needs a fan, but you don't need to slap a tornado on there to get good results.

The slk-800 I have in my system keeps my cpu @+/-35c at load, conversely the MC462 I used to use had the temps at 44c under load. PLUS the MC462 was a PITA to take off and put back on.

GO with an 800/900 slk and you will be happy.

ps. remember: too much ASIII on your DIE will cause your temps to go higher. A little goes a long way!

SLK-900U just replaced my Alpha 8942 and I am very impressed.

You can also use a low rpm 92mm fan to get quiet but good airflow.

Have the Alpha and mcx4000 for my P4 ... just installed the mcx 4000 actually. First impressions... mcx easier to install... temps are a little higher, but I will try a re-install just to see. I will likely keep the mcx just because of ease of use.

got my SLK-900U with a ThermalTake Smart Fan 2 running at about 2500RPMs keeping my T-Bred A at 1855 (10x 185FSB) with 1.775v to the core, and idling at about 40C and loads at about 43C, depending on Ambient Tempurature of course =)
