what is the best heatsink for a p4?

i heard swiftech is really good
althought
i also heard the coolermaster heatpipe to performa as good?
any truth?

There is no "best" heatsink. There is plenty of "best" hsf for your price range though. If you pay me couple million, I can build you a hsf that will kick any 40 dollar hsf's a$$. Doubt you will do that though. If you want to find the best hsf for your price range, read through the other threads, there is plenty already.

i like the 4 hole around the socket method tht swiftech mcx462 and alpha pal8942 heatsinks use

ax7, sk7 are a couple of other good heatsinks, however they use the socket lugs (which i find a bit unnerving having such a heavy heatsink, ive heard many stories of lugs breaking off, however it seems to be minimal nowadays. jsut be sure not to kick your case around )

The Pentium uses the ALPHA PAL8942, the AMD use the PAL8045.

The best heatsink is a water block.
Oops I forgot... you also need a pump, water, hose and a radiator. Well maybe you can get by without the radiator if you've got a big enough RESERVOIR
