heh...first mistake going to Circuit City or Best Buy
Go to a Audio Dealer (B&W, NHT, Paradigm, KEF) that caries more variety than what BB and CC offers. also, do your research on avsfourm.com and hometheaterforum.com. You will learn that there is much more to offer at a cost sensible price than what you would pay @ BB, CC, and even the Audio Dealer. You should look @ internet brands, axiom audio, aperion audio, ascend acoutics ( I have these ) and onyx rockets ( these are all fine speakers at a very good price ). For subwoofers check out hsu, adire, svs ( i have this ). Then make your purchase, you wont regret it and it will make watching movies a new experience, .
If your going for hometheater you will need a 5 Speaker setup and a Subwoofer in order to get true HT. You should plan accordingly if your going to break up and buy piecewise. You ideally want a timbre matched system so that when movie scenes pan or move around you wont have speakers outputing different sonic tones. Take your time and research. Good Luck,
