You can see my other thread about my symptoms. Just wondering how to decide which ER to go to. What's the best in NYC?

Link to said thread?

Also check your insurance to make sure they will allow certain places.

Gas and bloating have gone completely, and thus the explosiveness is also gone from BM's, and I no longer get a painful urgent need to go only to release some gas.

That's not really ER worthy, especially with the swine flu hysteria in NYC right now.
Call your PCP and schedule an appointment. If your insurance allows it, call a proctologist directly.

I always thought that if the time was available to post 2 threads of discussion on ATOT and await answers.. then it's most likely not an emergency situation. But hey..

Why do you feel like you need to go to the ER right now, when you've been dealing with doctors for this issue for months? The ER is for medical emergencies. If you have the time to post on here, you don't have a medical emergency. Go to a clinic or see your doctor tomorrow.

I vote for any hospital affiliated with NYU or any one that has med students running around.

Your bloody diarrhea could be a problem if you lose enough blood volume and arent able to keep yourself hydrated at the very least. Dropping into shock and going unconscious without someone to resuscitate you would be a bad thing for you.

You might have to rot in the ER for a little bit before someone sees you, but you could get fast tracked if you look a lot worse than it sounds on your posts. Be ready to tell them EVERYTHING you've been eating/drinking over the last few days.
On the bright side, you're still making pee so you might not have HUS
If this were House, MD, you could have gotten campylobacter and your knees and hips could start getting weak which would definitely require high-tailing it over to the ER.
Good luck.

You are totally wrong. I haven't been dealing with doctors for months, the first visit was about 4 weeks ago. The way that these people operate is they ask you a bunch of questions, then schedule you for tests. You go in for the test, then you schedule to see the doctor again. Then they schedule you to see a specialist to get more tests. The specialist asks you the same questions, and then in my case told me to schedule a colonoscopy, but the next appointment wasn't until June 29th. If i go to the ER, all the tests get done right away and I don't have to wait weeks while my health wanes away and I suffer every day with pain and constant trips to the toilet, etc.

Since I first went to the doc everything has gotten much worse, and I've gone from around 162lbs, to 148lbs today. I have to go squirt liquid/blood out at least 12x a day. Anyone with some medical sense knows this is an emergency. My doctor even told me himself that if it gets worse to go to the ER.

Here's my other thread btw:

Alright, I could be wrong here... but isn't blood in urine a VERY BAD thing? I would most certainly go to the ER.

I think it's blood in his diarrhea.

Okay, that's STILL very bad. Blood in the stool could be a sign of internal bleeding, or worse.

So basically, you have some chronic problem that your PCP is not man enough to handle and you think that somehow, magically, a busy, inner-city ER, staffed with people who have no training to handle these sort of problems, will sweep you away, get all $10K worth of your tests done in 15 minutes and give you your answer and cure. Wrong. If it is that bad, then your primary should ADMIT YOU HIMSELF to get tests expedited. If you go to the ER mark my words...you will wait for hours, appropriately, while real emergencies are triaged ahead of you. You will see an ER physician who does not treat and hence has little experience with chronic GI problems. You will get about $1K worth of repeat lab tests that you have already had (CBC, Chem-20). You will be discharged and told to follow up for your colonoscopy as planned. Net result - you are more frustrated, you pay more money, you get no answer, you waste a lot of time of people who have other, more appropriate things to be doing.

Trust me, I know how these things work. Do not go to an ER. Call your primary. Tell him/her that you are getting worse. If it's really that bad ask to be admitted for your testing. Things will work better and you will be happier. Hope this helps.

As others have said, this does not warrant an ER visit. This is why the ERs get backed up. If you do go, I hope you have to wait 8 hours.

This is not an emergency. Do not go to the ER.

Call your PCP in the morning and make him get your tests done & treatment arranged (or at least closer to treatment) immediately. If he won't do it, find another one.

I repeat: this is not an emergency. Do not go to the ER. If you don't need to go by ambulance, and by NEED to go I mean without the ambulance you will die or you cannot go on your own, then you don't need to go to the ER. If you're that insistent, go to an urgent care.

The ER is not going to do a stat colonoscopy. You'll most wait and wait.. then get some blood work and possibly a CT. I suppose it's possible that you've got a GI bleed, but if you had any serious GI bleed for a month.. you'd be dead by now. Who knows, though, I saw a fella roll into our ER complaining of a bit of nvd with some "possibly brown" vomit for about a week.. he did end up having a fairly decent GI bleed.

If I had to guess, I'd say you'll most likely head to the ER, wait an hour or two.. be seen.. be asked to produce a stool sample which you won't be able to give regardless of your claim to be going non-stop at home. Most likely no devastating GI bleed, so you'll be sent home with a referral to your PCP and a few hundred/thousand dollar bill.

But hey, let us know how it goes.

I'm not completely disagreeing with you guys, but tons of people go to the ER who don't have life threatening issues. People who cut of fingers while slicing a bagel, broken arms/legs, flu.

Anyways I've heard advice both for and against going to the ER so far so now I'm not sure what to do.

And to the guy who said get admitted by the doctor, how does that work exactly? I didn't know that was a possibility.

Just go get your business handled already. In the times you have posted, you could have found a qualified solution. People really need to keep their medical drama off these forums.

I'm not insensitive about your problems, but if I had such problems I sure in the fuck wouldn't be here posting about them. That said, you probably have Crones, verticulitis, colitis, cancer, or a whole host of possibilities. All of them are serious. Now get out of here and do something about it. You already know what is going to happen....they will disconnect you from your asshole and you will have to shit in a bag, following removal of part of your intestines.
