Depends. If you like the taste of MSG, salt and spices it can be really addictive stuff. Especially some of the better brands.

I've been meaning to get to Overland Park and check out the asian markets over there. This just gives me another excuse to go.

the only ramen I'm familiar with are the ones common in supermarkets, the cheap ones that you can get in packages of 12. Like maruchan which I doubt is authentic.

Hands down my favorite since I was a kid. I dont eat it anymore since its all salt but I used to make it and put meat, lime, and siracha in it. Amazing.

Some of you seem to think all ramen is Mr noodles quality, this is simply not the case.

I'm not a fan of any ramen in a cup. Nong Shim makes some decent ones but it's still poor substitute for the stovetop variety. They have to compromise on the noodles in the cup variety for the lower cooking temperature.

Ramen has to be cooked on a gas stove at high temperature for optimal taste. Electric stove won't give it the same taste. Water must be measured precisely. Amount of soup base is individual preference but when you add it can make a difference. The most important is how long you cook. A minute can be the difference between perfect slightly undercooked noodles to mushy overcooked mess. Noodles should be transferred to a bowl and consumed right away. Al dente is important in ramen just like in pasta but much harder to time correctly due to the shorter cooking time.

Instant Ramen=shitload of MSG=works like steroids (you know what i mean)

even if you put very little of the soup base? I get migraines from MSG, so I use very little, and use the secondary flavor packet that comes with the ones I get. No MSG in that according to ingredients listed.

This is my favorite one.

I add egg, enoki mushroom, pork ribs and baby bok choi. The additions end up costing more then the ramen itself but its so good.
