Im replacing my kids computers. Here is the question which platform under Win7 will not be crushed by Win7sp2, Intel 775, 1156, or 1155. Cost is a factor.
Can you be more specific about what your kids want to do on these machines? Any of those platforms will run Windows 7 just fine. My guess is that 1156 paired with a Core i3 or Core i5 is probably the sweet spot for performance and value.
This isn't even a challenge for today's fast computers. Even an Intel Atom might run this stuff just fine. I would say any dual core or better that came out in the past two years will work perfectly fine, but I would not get an Atom.
I know less about amd than intel. If I use Newegg DIY list, on the lower priced combo I see no difference except in warranties.
I use the systems longer than most people. The more economical the system is, the shorter it's useful life. I need 3 systems that will work past Win7 sp2.
Well the motherboards with socket 1155 is the newer platform. Intel came out with an improvement in their processors. I think they call them 2nd generation Core 2 Duo and Quads. What you want depends on what you plan on using the computer for and how much money you want to spend.
I think Intel is more dependable and will last longer. This is just my opinion. I have owned and assembled both Intel and AMD based computers and I think Intel makes a better product. I know it costs just a little more for Intel-based products, but I think they are worth it.
You could use the 1156 first generation Core 2 Duo CPU's if you want to save some money. It just depends how long you want the computer to last and how well they need to perform. Viewing even web pages online can use more processing power these days.
If you had a Price Range for a target maybe someone could suggest a list of parts for both AMD and INTEL. It seems like $$ are not going very far these days.
