WOW. Just WOW.
I must say if Saul made this up on his own, this is pretty impressive stuff for a short story. Thanks for this little gift. :gift:
Congratulations Saul! :beer::wine:
I liked the interesting bits and pieces about the religious back story about the snake and the garden of Eden and all that. Unfortunately, the ending was a wash for me, because I scrolled down on the post to see just how long it was, and caught the ending accidentally, LOL, oh well. So I realized before hand what it was leading up to.
Saul could easily make this story a bit longer, by starting out with old Samuel wandering out into the desert to die by an intentional snake bite without revealing the majority of the back story, then leading up to Jack's car breaking down after it. I think the reader is left wondering a bit about what Samuel must have been like and thinking, since Nate the snake seemed so attached to him later on.
I'm not sure I would classify this so much as a joke, though. I think it seems more like a fable than a joke, even though it is leading up to a punchline and a play on words. I'm not sure if anyone else noted that aspect of it and I was too winded after reading it to see all the responses. But I will book this thread for later reading or torturing others, LOL. :laugh:
Thanks for linking this in that other thread, and I'm glad I read it! :thumbsup: :thumbsup:
