best key/lost item locater system?

So, I just got a spiffy new Toyota RAV4 limited and I'm loving it. Among other things it has the keyless entry/ignition system - you keep the transmitter in your pocket and the doors unlock when you touch 'em. Nice, but $400 to replace if you lose one! Since my wife is notorious for not being able to keep track of things, I'd like to get something to slap on her key to help us find if/when she loses it. Amazon lists a bunch of products and it's hard to tell which is any good. They all have some bad reviews. Anyone have any experience w/a product they can recommend?

that system is actually better. since you don't need to take out your keys, they never have to leave her purse. a lot less likely to lose it. unless she's in the habit of losing purses too.

yes, i am hoping that never having to remove it from her purse will help ... but she only has to remove it once to lose it. and of course she has multiple purses, and sometimes doesn't use a purse at all. given the replacement cost, i'm thinking better safe than sorry!

I just bought a 2010 Prius last week and it has the same system. The dealer said the keys are "over $400" as part of a sales pitch for some $800-ish insurance plan from the dealer. I searched on Google and several places sell than for less than $150. While $150 is still a lot of money, it's a lot cheaper than the dealer implied. Not sure about the RAV4 but you should look.

That said, if you find a good locator solution post it please. My wife lost the last set of keys and that was like $100 to replace all the missing keys.

At one point I recall a product that was a keytag that would say something along the lines of, if found, please drop into nearest mailbox. And it would go to the companys processing facility where they would contact you and arrange for delivery, but I cannot locate them anymore.

There is a company called Trackitback, which is similar except the person who finds the item must call an 800 number to arrange for courier pickup.

I have a Prius.

Even worse than losing a Prius key somewhere at home is dropping it an losing it somewhere in your car. When that happens, you can't lock the car door and anyone can get in and drive it away.

A Prius repair person once told me of a customer who brought in their Prius because they had dropped their key in their car and couldn't find it.
