hey guys i was wondering if you have any links to keyboard reviews or have any personal thoughts about what would be a nice keyboard to get for a relatively low price...under the $50 range...preferable in the $30 and under category

thanks

I like Logitech and Cherry keyboards. Have a Logitech Keyboard with integrated USB hub and multimedia Keys and am absolutely loving it.

There is one Keyboard though that I love more and will never sell it or such: Old original IBM PS/2 Keyboard... built like a brick, smash this baby over someones head and they are sure to notice... just before they black out and you can carry on typing with it.

I currently have an MS Internet Keyboard Pro with the 2 USB ports in the back.

I don't know if Amazon still has the deal with this keyboard + optical mouse for ~$30 or so after rebate. Check their site out, search for the keyboard...might be a good deal for you to get there.

Hey Thrax Im still using one of those IBM Keyboards.. This Came off an old IBM Aptiva Desktop system from eons ago. Still runs One time it had stopped working and decided to replace it, i could not STAND
the difference in some of the keys. So I took it apart cleaned it up put it back together and now im happily still using it. You wouldnt happen to know where I could buy a couple spares just in case though would ya? hehe

the omnikey keyboards are arguably the best keyboards ever made...just like those old IBM ones. love how the keys feel, and they are built like a tank.

The thing I loved about the old IBM keyboards was the "tactile feedback" - the clickiness and return of the keys. Sweet.

I'm now using a Logitech wireless keyboard and mouse. It's ok, but I realize now that the wire connections weren't all that big a pain. It is nice to be able to put the keyboard aside to work on my desk, or lean back in my chair with it propped in my lap, but I don't think I'd spend the money again. The keyboard and wheely mouse are only so-so.

Any keyboard made by Fujitsu or that contains Alps switches. I believe the Northgate contains Alps switches, as do some Focus keyboards.

If you get an IBM or Lexmark clicking keyboard, try to get one that contains the 3-chip electronic controller because the 2-chip controller has compatibility problems with some VIA chip sets or BIOSes.

the older dell keyboards rock, my friend had a few extra and game me one..if a friend has a dell computer under warranty just have them call saying the M key is stuck and they will send you a new one with no questions asked and no returning the other, but i didn't tell you to do that!

Dude! You are getting a Dell Keyboard!

Northgate omnikey programmable keyboards are no more. However, another company bought the keyboard plant and still makes the same, slightly updated, keyboards. These keyboards are pricey but the also have that great clicky alps key switch tactile feedback that makes touch typing much easier.

The keyboards are now the Avant Prime and Stellar.

I am using an IBM kb. model KB-8923. mfg feb 1997. I like it a_lot. I bought it because it was the only one at the time that had a big backspace key and the "\" key above the enter key where its supposed to be. Only gripe is that the keys aren't removeable so cleaning it is soemtimes a pita.

our local bank unloaded a whole bunch of those old IBMs a few months ago, it's where I got mine from, won't do you much good though since I am in Germany and as you can imagine those Keyboards were sold in no time.

Aron makes these wicked multimedia keyboards in black, silver/black, and translucent..they are the nicest i have used yet

the keys feel like iMAC keys (in fact they look identical), the keyboard has the smallest footprint i have ever seen and is unusually flat (which i love)...and it has a heavy feel for such a small/thin keyboard...no keys are compromised..has a ton of multimedia keys...and they are programmable (if u change them in the registry - easy).

and my local retailer sells them for $19 CDN, which is unbelievable...i'd buy it if it was $50.

these things feel and look slick as hell...(i hate the old bulky keyboards)

check egay for those old IBM keyboards... everyone is trying to sell 'em. You could probably pick one up for around 10 + shipping.

i'd reccomend a fujitsu. I used one for about 4 years, and the keys are really soft and perfect for gaming. excellent keyboard! unfortunately i fried it by spilling rubbing alcohol on it doh!

anyways, i'm using a ms internet keyboard, and i like it too

The new Black Dell internet keyboards are also very nice. I use one on my main rig, and it has a nice feel. It is hard to find "quality" black keyboards. My GF uses the logitech Cordless Freedom Optical, and it is an amazing set.....

What about the IBM ActiveResponse keyboards (or similar - Rapid Access)? I got one for $20 bucks (charcoal black) and it rules. Its noted to be very durable with long lasting keys, very good feeling as well. A little softer than the old IBM M clickers, but I actually think its better, both in feel and looks.

I have a memorex MX2500. It has 18 "special" keys, and it is also much quieter than MS keyboards.
