Best LAN game suggestions?

What in your in your opinion would be the best FPS LAN game for a 3 machine lan?

The hosting machine will be a AMD 64 3500+ :

Here are some specs on the lowest grade machine:

P4 3.2
ATI X300
1 GB Ram

You know if that lowest machine could spend a dime on a real video card, you wouldn't have any issues. I suggest an RTS, perhaps Kohan. There are also literally thousands of mods for Warcraft 3 worth checking out. I especially enjoy the defense and RPG mods. Otherwise Kohan is a better RTS, in my opinion.

i'd suggest FarCry, the game is freakin beautiful, and thers TONS of different maps if you don't enjoy the originals
depends alot on your prefference of FPS style

Ha?! Are you serious? Just look at some benchmarks. I mean, the card has 1/10th the bandwidth of my card, 1/4 the pipelines... it's just.. it's pathetic compared to any other cards on the market. My 9700 Pro is 2 years old and faster =/

Not everybody can afford those... I'm stuck w/ a 9600 non-pro but it performs well enough for my liking.

PS: Counter Strike:Source/HL2eathmatch = best multiplayer fun on the planet

UT2K4 has never let me down

You might also try a top down co-op mod for it Alien swarm. That's really fun

That being said, some of the half-life games are awesome multiplayer

Believe it or not, the 9600 is almost identical to an x300, unless it's an x300se. Than the 9600 is better.

Counter-strike or HL2, or any FPS for that matter, is terrible for a 3-man LAN. Trust me, I've tried.

I'd have to go with UT2k4. Great graphics and a fun game overall. If you can get more people involved, Warcraft 3 with Frozen Throne has an awesome mod called DotA (www.dota-allstars.com) that is a lot of fun IMO. Also don't forget about Tribes: Vengence which I've played only a few times, but found it to be much better than the original.

As I've said already, FPS games are worthless if they aren't co-op in a 3-man LAN. The only FPS I would suggest is Serious Sam, as it has co-op. Otherwise, bots suck and 3-man deathmatch is boring as hell.

The place to find mods for Warcraft3: TFT is maps n mods. You can sort by rating to find the best. I'm enjoying a final fantasy tactics RPG mod for it right now, but it's still in beta. The current version is actually broken for multiplayer, could be a couple days before it is fixed.

I think PC racing games like Need for Speed or Motocross Madness are great for small LAN parties. They are a blast to play even with only 2 people.

The Worms series is another fun game for 2 or 3...albeit it's a slow-paced game.

I also forgot to mention Command & Conquer games can be a lot of fun as well with anywhere from 2-8 players. Great game even in single player mode.
