Apple Powerbook or Dell Latitude.

The Inspiron line "feels" flimsy; every Latitude I've worked with has the solid feel to it. I find IBM's offerings unattractive- not that looks should be a factor when choosing laptops, but they are for me. Personally, IBMs are at the bottom of my list for this reason.

I don't do much in the way of heavy number crunching and the like anymore though... all I do is surf the web and use office.

Wow, I'm surprised at the # of IBM votes. I never even considered IBM. I always thought it was either Dell, Apple, or Sony. I guess I'll take IBM into consideration from now on.

IBMs are cool...i just got me a new T42, and this thing is built like a tank, and the thinklight comes in quite handy at night.

Toshiba by far.

Alienware for gaming (tho that one VoodooPC notebook with two RAID-0 7200rpm drives is sick)

IBM or Dell Latitude (and Latitude only) if you want a PC. Toshiba and Sony would be close up there also.

That being said I just bought a 15" Powerbook and I am eagerly waiting for it to get here (will let you know).

I was going to buy an IBM, which is my personal favorite when it comes to PC; however, the configuration I wanted was about $1000 more than a similar Powerbook, so I went w/ the Mac.

As for gaming, buy a SFF desktop or just make due on a higher end laptop. I find it funny that people buy laptop's for gaming when they could buy a less expensive laptop and have the money to buy a desktop also...
