Best laptop for OpenGL

Someone just asked me to find a laptop in the $2000 range for work related to OpenGL. The only other condition is that it can't be an IBM. I can't think of anyone else and Dell Lattitude series is the only other one I can think of.

Also, does Dell ever have promotions on the Precision line? How is the build quality and support for these Dells? (will be purchased through a University account with Dell).

I believe it only has 4 pixel pipelines. So it's something that's cut down.

I think there are actual hardware differences between the quadro and geforce line though, so you'd probably get faster performance with the Quadro 1400 or whatever number it is.

I have a question. Would a Dell XPS2 have better performance than the Precision M70? The academic pricing for the M70 is a joke but the SB offers a good deal. I figure that the 17" WUXGA screen with a 6800go Ultra and 7200rpm HD should make up for the difference. Would it?

Yeah but I still don't think it fully functions as a Quadro, I think it's missing like 1 or 2 features.(which may not even be used by every program)

What's the memory bandwidth on the 6800 Go Ultra? If it's high enough, that could make up for not specifically being a Quadro.

Soft Quadro basically makes it a Quadro card. There really is nothing missing except for the enormous price tag and a 2nd dual-link DVI, which notebooks don't have any ways so it doesn't matter.Soft Quadro's can eve perform better, because the Geforce line is clocked more loosely then the Quadro line.

The xps uses gddr3 clocked at 1066. The chips are rated at 1200.

I think they lack hardware accelerated lines or something like that though.
