FIrst off, I know this is a software section, but it's the only Apple only section, and Im sure in OT I'd get told to move this here. So I'll put it here to start with.

What is the best bag/case/sleeve to protect my new macbook?

I will probably have to carry my heavy work laptop and my macbook. So maybe a sleeve that will keep it safe in another bag is best. Any suggestions? I liked just the regular black neoprene, but I've heard it leaves black smudges on the white macbooks.

That bag looks pratical. But I need something more professional looking for the office. A messenger style bag will hold both laptops. So I need something small to slip my MB into.

Me, I got an older Dell bag as a hand me down (sort of the like the mockup of the hollowed out zune as an ipod case, who wants to steal a Dell? ) and it works great for me. I can haul multiple machines in it, maybe as many as four if I utilize all the pockets, or two if just using the main pocket. Plus, given the MacBooks smaller footprint, I still have room left in the main pocket for the power brick, my mouse, digital camera, various cables, external 2.5" enclosure, some blank discs, thumbdrive, mini-dvi converters, spare batteries, and some pens and paper.

I have yet to find another bag that holds quite as much as well... but then again I stopped looking once I got my Dell bag

i have a tucano sleeve for my mbp which i love, fits much better than the incase ones that they sell at the apple store. it's the second skin sleeve, got it off amazon.

it's currently going in a swiss gear bag, but that will eventually be replaced by one from booq bags.

i have the booqbag sleeve for the macbook. preordered last august. held up great through my first year of grad school. as a bag i use the newest version of the North Face "Recon" bag, as it has a sleeve that will fit the Macbook with case on. A great combination in my opinion, and versatile for school.

There are some FANTASTIC deals on Booq's site for older styles - but they are more suited towards MBP because the 15" Powerbook had the same form factor.

STM Alley. It's only $40 and fits the Macbook really well. I bought it from the Apple site and it came the next day using standard delivery.

It also has enough room for a few other things, but not a lot. If you need to carry around a ton of books along with it, then it may not be right for you. Also, it is a vertical messenger bag. Some people like this style and others don't.

I really, really liked this bag despite it's drawbacks. I had a green one when I had my 13" MacBook. The biggest downside is that you can't store books or the A/C adapter for the laptop easily. It pretty much fit my laptop and one spiral-bound notebook in it. I was able to fit the power adapter in the back, but it made it really bulky, ugly, uncomfortable, and stretched-out. If you just need to tote the laptop and a few small things, then it's the best bag ever

My PAQ-309 has plenty of room for extra books, a/c adapter and wireless mouse. It's not too big as well. The padding case inside the bag fit the MacBook like it is custom-made. Highly recommended. I paid about $45 shipped for mine.

i had one for my 12" powerbook, great little bag. i could fit a mouse and the power adapter in the front pouch, but that's about it. however for when i was traveling light it was perfect.
