Best major oem to buy a pc from?

The business I'm looking for has had some issues with Gateway lately but they like the availability of tech support and etc from a major oem. I've had issues with Dell but was wanting to try some different places (our pcs go out to our franchises nationwide so we kind of have to have someone with far reaching tech support) and see how pc experiences go with them. Of course I'd much rather build our own but with an IT department of three and the other two not knowing much about hardware I'm kind of on my own. Anyone have any really good experiences with say Micronpc or anything like that or would we be better off staying with Gateway (I hate the fact they don't really sell athlon systems anymore). Thanks in advance.

The company themselves has had a bad experience with Dell and I also always have problems with Dell's customer service. I think they build pretty decent quality pcs but my @#$$ I can't stand the hold times. I have been on hold for three hours before trying to get through to tech support and that is totally not acceptable. Gateway I am talking to someone in 10 minutes or less. I don't think they will go with hp either due to a bad experience about two years ago. (Is it just me or I totally eliminating all the major oems LOL). Anyway, keep the responses coming I will be more than happy to read pros and cons. Those of you that posted Dell as a good one, how have you handled the long wait times and etc?

Now-a-days you don't always get the best service from a major oem nor do you always know what components your purchasing. I can recommend a smaller dealer who has excellent ratings at ResellerRatings.com Try "Envisioncs", NOT Envisions. The web address for their site is http://www.envisioncs.net. They offer 3 years parts and labor for complete systems and charge only $28.00 for S&H. I've heard their response time is fast and their service is friendly. Their prices are a little high but the quality is good. They are a small, friendly but fast growing business. And if you decide to buy from them, let me know. I get a $10 gift certificate on my next purchase. It doesn't hurt for you to call and talk with them. If your not satisfied, then don't buy from them. It's that simple.

Go to resellerratings.com and read for yourself what people have to say about this company. I haven't bought anything from them yet because I haven't decided on my motherboard. However, I do know I will be buying from them.

I work for an enormous engineering/construction company and recently it was decided that all PC purchases would be through Dell. BTW, I hated Dell for years, and when they announced the new company policy, I was not very happy.

But then I noticed that Dell no longer cost an arm and a leg. And then I noticed how happy everyone else is with Dell. And then our remote Alaskan office didn't have to buy from them after all so I never did get one. But I don't hate them anymore.

2 years ago I would have chimed in 'Dell' like some hyper fanboy looking to feel good about my overpriced OEM computer...

But now:

Well no matter which OEM you go with, you WILL hear some horror stories.. in my personal experience.. Dell has gone downhill not only the components they choose, but VERY much downhill in service.. my wife's Dell has needed to be serviced about 6 times in 1 year... and 5 of those 6 times it took between 3 -5 calls before they actually shipped the needed parts...

One of my best friends just got a new P4 system from dell, and immediatley... blue screen erros in winXP etc... its been over a month, and he cant figure out whats wrong, Dell refuses to send out a Tech, or to replace the RAM (most likley problem)

On the other hand, Gateway (whom I used to despise)

My father in lawy bought one a year ago... has gone through 4 hard drives and a video card.. this is in a 4000$ system...HOWEVER... the support was good, the technicians I talked to were TRAINED, and had at least A+ level knowledge.... opposed to Dells, who new about as much about computers as my dead grandma.... also after poking around in the gateway, I noticed they seem to be using fairly decent parts


I would go with Gateway, simply for the service


Oh, I also used to work as a system admin at a HS, we had many dells.... . and many problems, mostly with their hard drives and cheap monitors.. the RMA process was painful.... I would not recommend Dell to anyone now, though at one time they would have been the only OEM i would buy from
