Self defence involves 2 moves (and there are 2 first move choices depending on what you are like).

First move:
Kick the shin
OR Kick the balls

Second move:
Elbow to the head/neck

Agreed. I took about 3 years of TKD (and loved it) It's great for fitness and style, but kick heavy martial arts are going to get you flattened in a streetfight...

Judo/Wrestling/Akido are the way to go for non-critical strike self-defense... Otherwise, toughen up your knees and elbows and go the Muay Thai route... (IMO)

Amusing story: Penn (from Penn and Teller) was hitchhiking across the country when he was young and stopped in a roadstop resturaunt. Some bikers came in and were looking to kick his hippie a$$... So he grabbed his milkshake and dumped it on his own head... They stopped... stared at him... and left.

Just to stir the pot, I wonder how many people giving advice has actually studied a martial art - any martial art - for more than six months, not to mention studied multiple ones for any reasonable amount of time to make an informed comparison.
