I'll agree with Mikael Åkerfeldt, but I'd also like to add Matthew Barlow during his Iced Earth days. Alive in Athens really shows he could do it live as well as in the studio.

*EDIT: I didn't know Matt was back with IE again. Freakin' sweet.*

Admittedly James Hetfield I enjoy

And if we're going down tangents, JMK's vocal ability > *

You mean MJK?

I saw Mudvayne a couple of years ago. AMAZING musicians, but Chad (I didn't know his name until you said it) was terrible. Like, only singing half the words in "Dig." And it's not like he was holding the mic out to the crowd for the other half, he was just rambling and only getting out about half of the words. It's too bad, because the guys on the instruments were maybe the most impressive live musicians I've ever seen.

So be amused, but you're also clueless. If you want a singer for each class of metal, so be it. But Deftones ARE a metal band, just of a different type.

uh. no. deftones aren't metal.

kids these days, sheesh.

No kidding.

Deftones = nu-metal, definitely.

Well, it depends on how you look at it. As far as pure speed and precision playing, they were amazing. I have to admit that I'm not into metal/hardcore at all anymore, and haven't been for some time, so I'm probably not the best person to comment on it. But they were damn impressive to me (and the rest of the people I was there with).

Sebastian Bach.

well, does he count as metal?
Slave to the Grind probably qualifies him as metal. I've seen him four times. The first was before Skid Row hit it big. He could still sing then. He's never been as good since because he'd always get so stinking drunk before he took the stage.

Just to thread crap because we're talking about Skid Row.

I saw Down last week in Nashville. Dave "Snake" Sabo (Skid Row guitarist) was at the show and ended up getting on stage with Down during their last song Bury Me In Smoke to play guitar. Him and Hank Williams III both got up and played around with the band. Phil's younger brother also climbed up on Kirks back and they walked around the stage..lol.

That and Kyle Turley also came up on stage in the middle of the concert and said Phil was the reason he played like a madman on the football field.

Actually, there were quite a few famous musicians and people at that Down show. It was awesome though. Great show.

Bach was the first one that came to mind. I'm trying to find the "Metal Nursery Rhymes" that SNL used to do with Bach screaming out childrens songs.

I never considered him metal. He is probably my favourite vocalist of all time though; he has range like no other.

I have a certain reverence for Black Sabbath so I voted Ozzy, even though he's sucked for a long time.

I'd also like to add Bjorn Strid of Soilwork (yes I know, "Speed") into the conversation, though I doubt many will agree with me.

Nu-metal sucks and needs to just finally die already.
