Yeah I am a BHD fanatic, I wore out my VHS and had to buy the 3 disc DVD set.


Yeah I am a military fanatic...I own almost all of these. Also I refuse to include Jarhead for overall SUCKINESS. Same with PH, which they made into a love story.

Why U571? That was a stupid movie with a plat that was pure nonsense.

And it's hard to rate only one movie as the best, since all the movies are from different eras. Plus some of the listed movies are fictional stories, while others are "historical fiction", and others true stories.

And why not Zulu, that's a great old movie as well.

I'd say for me its probably Saving Private Ryan. There's too many on that list that I haven't really seen, but I can always watch SPR and if its on I end up watching it.

I take back my response because this thread sucks due to refusing to include Jarhead, one of the only realistic depictions of that war according to those that were there.

I've seen the film 4 or 5 times.. Don't get me wrong I still get tears in my eyes every single time I watch it, and still get goosebumps when Private Upham transforms himself from a coward to a soldier, but some parts in the middle where they are looking for Ryan dragged a bit..

Again, this movie probably ranks as one of my all time favorites, but this movie did have some flaws.

No need to roll your eyes. I'm not trying to act superior here.

The central message of SPR is that we are all Private Ryan. Ryan was just a euphemism for all of us. We all need to "earn this."

A message my WWII veteran father tried over and over to instill in his children. And it never quite sunk in until I watched this movie decades after he died.

That "dragging" was some of the best character development in the history of film.

What about "Stalingrad" ? It's a movie that shows the experiences of a German squad stuck in Stalingrad. It's the "Das Boot" equivalent of the German army.
