Alright, I've finished with building my computer a bit ago and now I need to get a monitor. I have $300 and I want to get the biggest and best I can possibly get with it. Know where to buy a good one for about $300?

I was also on the market for some speakers? I could pay about $80 for them? Know where some good ones are? I have an Audigy 2ZS Gamer LE sound card. Check my sig for my rig.

If you're looking to maximize viewing area and resolution and you only want to spend $300 or less then CRT is the way for you...

This will be for Gaming purposes. Are CRTs really the best possible ones to use for games like farcry? Are there any disadvantages to them? What kinds of CRTs should I check out? From which companies are the best and/or most reliable? Would a place like mwave.com be a good place to get a CRT?

I've had the 950+ for like 4 years now and it's still looking excellent. Good pick on the 22" NEC.

Just realize that's a used monitor.

Personally I would want a brand new one with a 3-yr warranty.

There is no "disadvantage" on CRTs (expect they are big and heavy), the owns LCDs in gaming and screen quality.

Aperature grille (sp?) is just the type of CRT it is. It gives a very nice picture. The only drawback is two very faint horizontal lines about 1/5 of the way from the top and bottom of the screen, and a single very faint dot in the center of the screen. It's only visible on a very bright backgroud color though.

How good will this monitor be with DivX and movies and such? Is it pretty clear or will that dot and line get in the way? Will I even notice those things? How will color look on that monitor? Any comparison shots or reviews of that monitor?

I can't notice the line at all unless I'm looking at a white background and I look for it.

You're not going to see them at all watching divx.

The quality of your divx is going to be the limiting factor on the quality. Color and sharpness is excellent on my 950+.

I'm very happy with how movies look on it, but I tend not do watch on my monitor

I have an NEC FP1355, which Which is pretty much the same as that FE1250+. I think FP is for Flat Pro or something and has higher refresh rates.

FP1355 (22", 20.0" viewable):
1600x1200 @ 95 Hz (100.0 dpi)
1800x1350 @ 85 Hz (112.5 dpi)
2048x1536 @ 75 Hz (128.0 dpi)

FE1250+ (22", 20.0" viewable):
1600x1200 @ 87 Hz (100.0 dpi)
1800x1350 @ 77 Hz (112.5 dpi)

85 Hz is pretty much the ideal refresh rate. NEC monitors recommend 85 Hz and they're tuned for that so the display actually looks worse at higher refresh rates. 75 Hz is still good, and most people won't get a headache or eye strain looking at a 75 Hz display. I doubt you'll have your desktop in anything higher than 1600x1200, so that CRT is just as good as the more expensive ones. I used to use 1600x1200 on a 19" CRT (which is 111.1 DPI), and I stayed in 1600x1200 when I switched to a 22" CRT, so now I just sit pretty far back from the screen.
