Best Monitor For Gaming

What would be the best monitor for gaming, preferably under 500$. I dont know if its flatscreens are better? or CRT? Any advice appreciated.

for gaming, pick up a samsung NF monitor, or even something from Sony. 500 bucks is a good cash amount for a 19 " or even 21" flat trinitron CRT

Flat screen/display whatever you call it, it cant get more flat
1024*768 at 100 hertz refresh rates

If you're serious about gaming and have $500 to blow, pick up a 19" CRT that can do 1600X1200@85Hz. There are some nice sonys out there (410/420) that do this for under $400. IMO a 19" is not worth it if you can't run 1600X1200 well. Make sure your video card is on par as well, as low resolutions look terrible on a large screen monitor.

One more thing, if you're gonna pick up a big CRT, try to pick it up at a brick and mortar locale or find a free shipping deal. Shipping costs on a 60lb monitor can be prohibitive.

Definatly go get your self a 19" or 21" flat screen crt by NEC. I forget the model number that you want but a quick look on the nec site should give you the info you need.

I just bought a NEC FE991sb last week. Specs:

19"
18" viewable
1280x1024@85Hz
Black Cabinet

It cost $268 with FREE shipping on www.newegg.com. Very nice. Much higher refresh rates than your typical monitor, (albiet not the highest, but what I got was well worth the price). Has this nice software you can use instead of those cumbersome buttons on the front of the monitor, it's called "NaviSet", very usefull and easy to tweak your screen. I like it alot so far and have done a good bit of gaming with it.

I'd say buy this one and pocket the balance of that $500. Spend it on games!

Great, I'll definitely try this, I didin't think you could get anything good at such a low price, guess I was wrong.

I heard flat monitors smear? Or maybe thats only if their LCD.
