Opening sequence is a bullet's-eye view from manufacturing process through headshot.

Contact's intro IS cool. I know it makes people go Wow space is so big! but in truth the scale in the intro is all off and space is MUCH bigger than it shows. So big in fact that had they shown it accurately it probably would have ruined the effect. For example, if the earth was the size of a basketball, the moon would be a baseball 30 feet away. That's hardly the scale shown.
And then at the same time the sense of time represented by the TV/radio signals going back is skewed the other way. The edge of the solar system is less than a light-day away.

that is my favourite intro ever beat me to it. i really enjoy watching that sequence.

also, although it is not really the intro, i love it when the Enterprise flies into the picture when the federation ships are getting pwnt by the Borg Cube at the beginning of ST: First Contact. it makes my geek weenie twitch!

edit: Saving Private Ryan intro is gripping and intense. good call

28 weeks later. say what you will about the rest of the movie. the first 10 minutes rocked.
Also, Lord of War had a pretty powerful intro.
