Best movie of 1994?

Ed Wood was my sleeper favorite of the year.

Ed Wood is fantastic.

Out of the poll, I'd probably go for Pulp Fiction. It became a genre-defining film.

Forrest Gump was a great movie, but it irks me in a way. I think it made Stupidity "Cool" and now every dull person thinks they're part of the Elite.

I would say Shawshank is overall better than Pulp Fiction but I really dont like having to pick one or the other as Best.

I miss the mid 90's. Much like the 70's, when in a recession it seems all forms of art improve, especially movies. Directors and producers focus on the quality of story and story-telling.
Unfortunately we started to pull out of the recession by the late 90's and the bulk of movies went downhill with visuals outweighing content.

I'm not good at keeping up with new movies, but by your logic shouldn't this past year be loaded with greats in cinema?

Star Trek, Avatar, and Clash of the Titans all cost an ASSLOAD to make, so those arguments dont work well. How they can spend ridiculous amounts on movies during a recession is beyond me.

I'm going to say it now, I hope Shawshank Redemption doesn't win this poll like it does every other reader fav movie poll on the net. Yes it was an OK tear jerker of a film that had some fine sentimental moments but it is FAR from the best movie ever (as it is often portrayed). I voted Pulp Fiction just because I can't think off the top of my head what else came out that year.

And bingo it wins this poll too.

I've always found Pulp Fiction to be a little over-rated. Very enjoyable movie, I've seen it multiple times - the perfect movie when there's nothing else on tv. But I think it ranks 3rd that year behind Forrest Gump & Shawshank.
