Best mp3 "ripper" (not really a technical question)

I got some great advice on this board regarding software dvd decoders so trust you guys.. Basically, I used to use this program called "soundjam" on the mac and it kicked ass. I have tried many-a-mp3-rippers and all of them have produced very disappointing quality (grainy, skipping, etc) mp3s.. Which is the "best" mp3 producer from audio CDs? Price is not an issue. Thanks!!!

Don't make me have to rip them on my mac and transfer them painfully on my private network.

Personally, I like BladeEnc. I'm not a huge MP3 person myself, but I've found it works well when I want to encode the odd song.

OR

The executeable version isn't real user friendly (command line only), but there are several GUIs that have been developed for it. There's some here:
http://www.steensoft.demon.nl/lustrum/html/mp3e.htm

And the .DLL version can be snapped into most CD ripping programs as well as I understand.

Just my 2 cents.

Personally I like Musicmatch Jukebox, it will let you rip at very high bitrates, even for the free version, I have ripped about 400 of my CDs with it.

The best mp3 ripper/encoder for the PC is LAME using either CDEX or EAC.

Look here for more info. Look under "Programs that use LAME" for a link to CDEX. Note that CDEX includes the LAME .dll's so if you download CDEX you get everything you need.

Those programs are also all FREEWARE. Won't cost you one thin dime.

You might try http://www.cdngo.com -- CDnGo also comes with the Lame encoder dll (and others?) and supports many if you want to play. It supports some kind-of-neat things too. (And now, I'm going off to try CDEX...)

I was surprised at the simplicity and freeness of cdex. I used it for awhile then I went to Musicmatch. Another excellent program If you like the all in one format it has. I cheated with a key and now it rippes them off the disk much faster. Personally The ripper is all I use from musicmatch. Winamp is much better as a player and visuilizer.
But for the straight forwardness of CDEX thats what I would recommend.

I went ahead with CDEX and I am very happy with it.

Someone said they had dll finding problems but all you ahve to do is install the aspis that adaptec provides.

Thanks all.

Might want to try AudioCatalyst ( xingtech ) . Lets you rip *any* CD, even the ones with copyprotection. CDDB gets u track lists in seconds. Very nice encoder/ripper unless your CDROM drive sux...might want to try entering a search at Astalavista to get the fullversion

AudioCatalyst comes with the worst sounding mp3 encoder in the business (Xing).

I've never even heard of a copy-protected audio CD, there is no such thing.

Stick with CDEX or EAC and the LAME encoder. They are free and top-quality.

Musicmatch is dummy proof. Also Harrald proof.
It names the tracks in what seems to be the
standard format.
