Best mp3 Ripping Drive

Hi. i'm trying to find a drive that offers fast mp3 ripping speeds. i've seen some cd-rw drives that offer really fast .WAV ripping but my sony burner and toshiba DVD drive both rip mp3 at the same speed. any input would be appreciated. thanks.

What you need to do is find a drive that doesn't cache audio data. I've got a 3 or 4 year old BTC CDROM in one of my systems like this; it's much faster at ripping than any other drive I have. The odds of finding a drive that doesn't cache audio are probably slim, but I think a lot of current drives have firmware updates floating around which will disable caching when you flash the drive. Can't remember any specific models off the top of my head - try searching for the two drives that you've got before you go out and buy another one.

If you are ripping to MP3 on the fly most modern cdroms will be able to keep up with your processor's speed at encoding to MP3. In your case what appears to be holding you back speed wise is your processor not your cdroms because both models are ripping at the same speed.

TDK's 40X CDRW claims 48X ripping speeds! Now if this is true or not I'm not sure.
