GOT IT! Late(ish) last night. Haven't had a ton of time to play, nor have I gone cover to cover on the owners manual, but so far so good. Only thing that caught me off guard is the turquiose light strip that runs front door to front door across the dash. It's not a negative, just didn't realize it was there until now. Will post pics and further details as I get more into it.

For all those waiting with bated breath on an update for this thread, here is the 2-year update:

So far everything has been great. Car runs very well, excellent pickup and no issues so far at all. I am just shy of 20k miles (18.9k and change right now) and the car has shown no major (or minor) problems at all. Gas mileage is averaging out to 18.9 miles which isn't great, but I commute everyday in it on the highway and through the backstreets of Jersey City NJ which is a whole lot of stop and start. Only real odd thing I noticed just recently is that I believe the sensors which report air pressure in my tires are backwards, at least on the drivers side. Was constantly being told I had low pressure in my rear driverside tire so I put air in it twice but noticed no change. All of a sudden it dawned on me that my front tire on that side was now at 41psi which isn't ideal in cold weather! let some air out and filled up the front tire and all of a sudden everything was fine. Oddest thing I have seen so far in the car. Only other issue is I can't change the radio when I am backing up, but that may be because the entire display turns into a rear-view camera.

Trunk space and interior space is awesome especially for a family of four. Have taken it to NH once each of the past 2 summers with the trunk loaded with mostly kids gear and still would have room to fit more if i wanted.

Overall, would highly recommend to anyone looking for a family sedan.

Nice,

My uncle loves his Impala as well, though his is around 120K miles, and he has hit deer like 3 times with it (a deer strike totaled his previous car, Chevy Impala.)
They get a lot of damage from hitting deer, so, be careful not to hit any deer!

I couldn’t tell if you understood it or not, so please don’t think I’m trying to patronize you. Me and my wife had the tire pressure issue on our 2017 Malibu. A nail in a tire was causing a slow leak and the wrong tire was alerting, couldn’t find the problem, thought it was a bad sensor. Then found it was a tire on the opposite corner. What happened is when the dealer did the rotation, they didn’t initiate the sensor position re-learn. If they don’t do that, the car never knows the tire positions changed. So it shouldn’t be anything wrong with your car, whoever did your last rotation just didn’t finish the job.

Also as an owner of a 2017 Malibu and a 2017 Silverado, can confirm, in camera mode you can’t really change any radio function except volume from the knob.

I have 2 kids too. Nothing beats a minivan. Nothing. The comfort and cargo space combined.

Honda Odyssey have become junk - last place for sure. Sienna has not been changed for 10 years or so.

I'd get Kia Sedona now. I am actually thinking of getting one myself.

If I had a kid or kids, I'd get a Ford Transit, regular one instead of the big van. Or a C-Max.

Everything beats a minivan lol. EVERYTHING.

kidding....kinda. We have two kids and have zero issues traveling and carrying cargo for the family in any of our cars or SUV's. And we do it in style instead of soccer mom minivan.

On topic, that Impala is a nice car. I actually liked the older body style the best because it reminded me of nascar but all in all that is a slick looking chevy. I'm glad it worked out so well for you.

Congrats OP. Glad the car has been so reliable for you.

As a people hauler, I have to agree with this in general. Minivans don't have a lot of flash and definitely more of a dowdy reputation but they can't be beat for hauling people and stuff around. The Stow-n-Go feature in the Chrysler minivans is awesome. Fold all the seats down and you can fit sofas, sheet rock, plywood, tables, a crap-ton of boxes, recycling, etc. When the grandparents come to visit we can haul them plus our three kids around without having to take two vehicles. Same thing when our kids' friends ride along. When the kids were in carriers, the ingress/egress of big sliding doors was a definite back saver.

I have a "similar" thing all the time with my Oldsmobile Intrigue when I get the oil changed, as it has a rudimentary oil life monitor. When the oil gets changed, they never go through the key/brake procedure to reset the monitor, so even though the particulate sensor will not go off to trigger the oil light, the timer since last change will trigger and cause the light to come on 500 miles or whatever in.

I've learned that if there's any "procedure" that needs done on a specific car after basic maintenance, it probably didn't get performed. I just do the key/brake procedure myself every time I get the oil changed. Is there a similar self-performed procedure for the TPMS re-learn?

Sadly not quite as simple as oil. You hold lock and unlock at the same time on the fob for 5 seconds until you get two horn beeps that the car is in re-learn mode. Then you use the TPMS relearn tool, starting with the left front against the side wall, until you get a horn. Then the turn signal will illuminate on the tire the computer wants you to use the tool on next until the tires have all been done. You can get a knockoff tool for about 15$ from Walmart or Amazon if you want to do it yourself.

Well, I have to go in for an oil change soon so I am going to get them to clean up the tire issue. Turns out, it's the same on the passenger side as well (not sure if that was obvious to everyone else, but I just confirmed it yesterday).

As far as minivans are concerned, we have a 2012 highlander right now, but I wish I could convince my wife to get a minivan. They're not the sexiest things on the road, but as has been said, when it comes to hauling offspring + their crap, nothing beats it. My wife despises them however, which is going to make things difficult.
