Do you want the highest performing cooler regardless of how expensive and how loud it is? Do you want an inexpensive one that is also good? Do you care about noise?

Xigmatek S1284. TRUE can't be had from newegg, and the Xig is slightly better performance/dollar, although slightly lower performance generally.

good choice, I was considering this, but got the Dark knight instead from frys with Some good AP. It was for another computer. Anyways, the 4 heatpipe version may be a bit better. True or megalems would be best, but I don't think they are on newegg. Try different sites like frozencpu.com. If with a true, you may want to get it lapped.

NewEgg makes a CPU cooler?

What is "best" to you regarding performance/noise and does price come into the equation?
- i am right now testing one 120 MM fan vs two 120 MM fans in the "push-pull" configuration to see how much difference it makes and i am using the rather budget Cooler Master Hyper N212 vs Thermalright ultra 120

i think it is important to have the fans 'matched' as the very budget hyper n520 works very well [comparatively, to a point] on this principle rather quietly

Actually, they do. Rosewill is Neweggs "store brand"

Sorry. Let me be more clear.

I'd like the cheapest Newegg cooler that will let me do 4.0 Ghz on the Q9550.

I'd also like to avoid the ones that are known for being the loudest.

S1284 is deactivated. What about the HDT-S1283?

yea the S1283V Dark Knight model (comes with a 90CFM fan) should probably do that for you. im running an S-1283 on my e5200 @ 3.2ghz with 1.38vcore (shitty 680i board sucks for ocing) and when i had a 90CFM fan on there the temps were in the mid 50s under OCCT.

I have the HDT-S1283 and it is a very good cooler. I am currently running mine passively. I don't feel confident suggesting it if you are going to OC that much. Taking my lapped Q6600 to 3.6ghz produces temps of 45C-idle and 60C-load, with the fan.

The difference between the S1283 and Dark Knight is the Dark Knight has a nickel plating if that floats your boat.

the cheapest .. and VERY quiet two low RPM fans in "push-pull"

i did it with Hyper N520 with my Q9550s at 4.0 GHz
-- "satisfactory" vs. Thermalright 120

You want a PM to my review ?

Yes, NewEgg does not actually make CPU coolers; but you are right, their subsidiary does - and i think they are known for being loud - unsure

S1284EE - http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16835233023

Some theorycraft says that when used with high voltage quads, the 3 8mm heatpipes of the S1283 get "overwhelmed", meaning that those three pipes can only transfer so many watts of power away from the CPU, causing it to perform slightly worse than coolers like the TRUE with 6 6mm pipes. The 1284 adds a 4th big 8mm pipe, and has much better heatpipe contact than coolers like the TRUE, so I would think it should perform at least on par, if not better, although I havent seen any specific reviews of the 1284 model/TRUE.

Either way jut about any of the coolers mentioned will get you to 4gHz. Some will probably perform a few C better than others, but I don't think the difference from worst to best will be very large. For reference I used a S1283 on my e7200 at 4.1gHz with like 1.475 vcore, and temps were mid 60's I think

if you are going for overclocking to the max, something like this from loudest/ biggest. Make sure your case can accomodate it

1) Probably the best coolermaster V8 or thermalright 120
2) Middle range scythe mugen is better than the dark knight, check reviews
3) Quiet and good performance Artic Cooling Freezer Pro 7 ( I have my q9550 at 3.4ghz around 60c load, very quiet )

sunbeam core contact freezer... i just built a 9550 box with one and it runs 4.0 and stays under 70c in a case that doesn't look like a screenhouse...

stick a faster fan on for even better performance...

or a zerotherm zen... stick 2 fans on for better performance...

both < $25 shipped with rebate... great deals...

I wasn't recommending a rosewill, just pointing out that newegg owns them. I have been very happy with my zerotherm http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/...8565&prodlist=celebros

My Phenom 720 @3.5ghz barely goes over 40C, about 15C or so above ambient.

They increased the price by three dollars since yesterday, but it still comes out to less than $20 at zzf. The rebate is pretty nice too, for $2 you can get it rush processed in about a week instead of the usual 6-8 weeks.
