best nforce 4 ultra mobo?

I already have an A8N-E mobo which has worked fine except for the chipset fan. It has made loud noises, won't work half the time and did I mention it can be loud (when it works). Besides that its fine. I'm needing a new NF4 ultra mobo though.

Should I get a different brand? Never had anything but asus.

How hard is it to replace the chipset fan?

If I do get a new motherboard, it doesn't have to overclock well. I just want one that will work stable without the chipset failing or anything. Also an Optical output (like on the A8N-E) would be nice.

Is there a FANLESS NF4 Ultra motherboard anywhere?

I would recomend either the DFI Lanparty Ultra-D, I have this board and it's awesome!!!!

The Epox 9npa+ Ultra is also a great board!!! I can't speak for the noise on the epox, I do however know that the DFI chipset fan isn't even audible through my case.

just to understand better, your board works fine, its just the chipset fan that doesn't work half the time and is loud?

if its just the fan, replace it. its as simple as unscrewing the old, removing it, and placing a new one on, and screwing that one in place.

My Chaintech VNF4's chipset fan is dead silent,i had a MSI Neo4 before & boy was that thing had ear splitting fan.

Fan on my DFI LanParty NF4 is silent(almost...), but very quiet.

Might want to check the motherboard forum. Apparently there was a batch of Asus boards with bad fans. Many people just had to e-mail Asus and they got a new fan sent to them free.

I would say Asus A8N SLi Deluxe. I think newegg has it for 180.00.

leegroves86, if you're simply unhappy with the chipset hsf, replace it with this Zalman cooler. The majority of chipset hsf's use pushpins to mount to the board, so you may have to remove your board from the case, in order to pinch the mounting pins from the backside.

After that you can mount the Zalman and enjoy the silence.

A8N Premium has no fan. You could always buy a Zalman NB47J.

stick teh zalman hs on the chipset. if you're STILL worried about temps-
40mm fan
pick one and stick it on the side of the hs. it will cool better than almsot all stock mobo hsf. (you can lower the speed with a fancontroller or speedfan which is free...i never tried speedfan but people say it's great)

I wish I waited for the A8N Premium. I got the deluxe before the Premium was out yet.

The Zalman heatsink can get in the way of some video cards. Plus if you get the A8N Premium you don't even have to mess with pulling off the heatsink and applying the Zalman.

Changing a chipset fan it no harder than making P&J sandwich. But if you're ready to delve into a new mobo, Asus brand are almost always reliable.
