NetGear BABY! I've been running those cards for 2 years now. I've had a very high success rate. Netgear sounds like a cheap brand...which it is, but the quality is really high because the cards are made by Nortel Networks(formerly Bay Networks). So you're getting good quality equipment and they can be found at any Circuit City location which makes it that much more convenient. But...with any brand you get, make sure you get a 10/100 card and make sure you have a free PCI slot to install the card in...(just in case you bought an emachine...2 expansion slots?) Good luck on your selection and ENJOY!
W2K will automatically detect and install driver for the NETGEAR and D-LINK, but not the Linksys. Most card will work with W2K so just get the cheapest one you can find. I had an SMC one that cost me like 2 bucks at BUY.COM with the coupons and free shipping and it work perfectly fine too.
My Linksys LNE100TX drivers aren't very happy. I get disconnected from my roommates once in a while. I wish they would update their drivers. Most recent is like 9/99

win2k reconises the linksys cards now... if you want to spend a little more money i would get ether a intel or a 3com nic cards these cards are the lexus of nic cards...it will run you about $5 more than the linksys or netgear cards
If its a workstation, any nic will do. If its a server with a lot of clients, get the fastest one you can find. It may say 10/100, but that isn't always the speed it runs.
