The VH45DE is the 4.5L DOHC V8 engine in the older Q45s, they made 290hp similar torque...they have been said to be underrated in the 89-92 Q45s.

However, the example we are looking at in the Z, is a TWIN TURBO VH45DE...now that must rock.

Look at the welds on the interlooking piping..just art.

Altho it is odd how hte turbos are located all the way near the tail pipes.

Don't tell me you missed those twin intercoolers when you first saw those pics!

Hey lay off NFS4, he's a dash-stroker, not a technical grease monkey like us

fredtam: isn't 200-300lbs increase a lot considering the car only weighs about 2600lbs to begin with? How would it improve handling if it loses its weight balance?

It is not that much when you consider power/weight. Also that is a rough estimate because engines differ in weight. As far as the handling it is hard to explain. It just feels better. Some of this is because of the beefier suspension that is usually used. The balance isn't really an issue since tons of these have been done and the motor mounts place the engine in the correct place. Some different than others. If you use the JTR template the the engine will sit farther back than if you use the mounts from John's Cars. It isn't like the old days when it was trial and error. A lot of time/experience/money have went into making this a reliable conversion.

I'd rather have a 240Z w/ a Chevy small block. A nice detuned NASCAR motor would work alright. I've seen a guy w/ a Mustang running a Roush motor that spins 9k and his is lasting okay on the street/strip. Imagine in a car with a little less weight. I've seen a 240Z with a Chevy small block, so I know it'll fit easy enough.

Makes me think of the Focus w/the Cobra motor in it. It's all about power-to-weight-ratio.

I've seen a Mopar mag with a 96 Neon with a 340 small block in it too... that's so damn cool
shoe-horned much? hehe

VK45DE - it shares the same materials design as the VQ..except its 8-cyl instead of 6.

Would a VK45DE fit into a Z?

Sure why not? If a VH can fit, so can a VK?
