Check out the Dell e1505 at their website, I am getting one with some nice specs. Including a 1.8 C2D, 7900GS, 1GB of ram for $1,300!

He probably means the E1705.

And the 7300 is not the best choice for the E1505, the X1400 is (despite the pricing).

Neither will give you half the perfromance he wants in the 7600go. OP, check out the HP dv8000 series, I know that comes standard with a 256mb 7600go. Toshiba also has a customizable P100 Line where you can upgrade to a 7600. Whether you can stay under $1200 with the rest of your desires is kinda pushing it.

That's a really good buy. I'd go for it.

Edit: Just be aware your sacrificing battery life and portability

maybe $100 is my prediction. there's no new cpu coming out to make these drop in prices and laptops don't generally depreciate as fast as desktops (at least from my experience). the laptop looks like a good buy...i'd go for it if it wasn't so big (i need it for school and want something light with all the books)

You might see some price drops only because manufacturers are going to be hurting to sell since apparently the market is waiting on Vista to be released to spur new PC sales.

but what about the quad cores comming up? & theres a 100$ drop then maybe i can buy the dell e1705 wid 7900go (currently is 1358$), the diff in weight bet a 15.4" (dv 6000) and a 17" (dv 9000) is very less (approx 1.5 pound) according to the website , and besides you do get a 17" for all the extra fun in gaming

Quad cores won't hit laptops for a WHILE.

The difference in size of a 15.4" vs 17" notebook is much more than 1.5lbs my friend. It is extra weight distributed over a larger surface area, making the laptop more cumbersome and you will not want to carry this many places. If you need portability in the least, don't go with a 17".

Some price drops are likely with the lull waiting for Windows Vista and the already extremely competitive market, but don't count on anything like that. Nothing is set in stone

agreed fully. amrit, if you want a notebook solely for gaming, use your desktop. if you want to have a notebook for daily uses and to have some fun on, try and get the best 15" u can find. i mean i don't even remember you stating what the need for a laptop is in the first place. you simply said you wanted a good video card...it's not just for LAN parties or something of the sort, right?

hmm..
i dont have a PC (desktop) , it a long boring wierd story which i shall save you from , my use of my laptop would be defined by -
very frequent gaming - i'm satisfied by games running at 1024*768 high detail , i play a lot of games
1.5 yrs from now i shall be taking it to my college daily (current college teaching doesnot require it)
so now it shall remain at home and will be used for giving presentations (1-2) a month .
and so battery life is not very important .
please ask if i am missing to mention something .
so i basically need a gaming machine that doesnot burn a hole in my pocket .
i have never owned a laptop and think bigger screen would provide better gaming experience , but the point of hurling around a heavy machine has come to me ver recently , since i had calculated the weigh diff of 15.4" and 17" to be about 1.5 pounds (hp dv 9000 and dv 6000) , so i thought it would not make a lot of diff ,

since i have never owned a laptop before ,i need a frank opinion frm ne one who owns a 17" lap. - is it really unconvenient to carry it around .

also there is a fact - i'm not getting any 15.4" laptop with core 2 duo that has atleast 7600 , all i'm getting is 7400 - which may do for now , but isnt great on the front of future proofing .

so plz help me - i was almost certain regarding dv9000 - now i'm in a fix .

i haven't owned a 17" laptop before but from what you've said, i would say for the first 1.5 years you'll be fine. it's not the fact that the laptop is around 8 pounds...it's the fact that laptops are generally transported with other materials as well (like if you're a student, you have books and a binder accompanying the laptop) so you start to feel the weight there. i'm not saying it has to do with being strong or weak; i'm a scholar athlete but i still wouldn't want to be over-encumbered while standing with my backpack on. if you're only going to have a binder and one textbook in the backpack with the laptop, it shouldn't be bad, but once you get a second one, it'll get heavy

I have a Sony Viao with a 17" monitor, and it is pretty heavy if you have to carry it a long way. I definately wouldn't want to carry it on a daily basis. But for what I use it for its great, it sits in a docking station on my desk 95% of the time and only gets carried a few times a year on trips.

A lot of Acer TravelMate's can be had with 15.4" and MR X1600. Wouldn't be my first choice, but models like the TravelMate 8204 (or now like 8205 or 8210 or something) are good quality.

Im in the same boat as you. Im looking for a 15 inch laptop with a 7600 go or better graphics card. Ive searched all the mainstream companies (Hp, dell etc). My recommendations is the Asus A8j series. The current Asus A8Jm is 15.4 inches, core duo, 512mb 7600 go bluetooth etc, look up the specs for 1499$ USD. Now heres the better part, Asus is releasing the update in mid october the Asus A8JS. Mostly same specs, but includes 2 gigs ram Core 2 duo, 512mb 7700 Go etc. for 1499$. Look it up on google, this is your best bet, for affordable 15 inch laptop gaming.

That looks like your best bet, and Acer or Asus are your only bets at getting a decent notebook with mid-range discrete graphics at that price. Don't get an MSI.

ne way - check this out :

http://www.avadirect.com/product_details_configurator.asp?PRID=5540

looks good for the price...don't forget to add a wireless card to it (from what i see, it doesn't come with one; go down to "Internal MiniPCI Wireless Network Cards")

that company offers no warranty in india -> so not getting it -> coz once it goes bad its gonna cost a lot to get it working again .
so i am stuck with dell or hp for now (toshiba is too expensive)
will probably go for dv6000 (although it has go7400)
coz none of them is offering a 7600 with a 15.4" screen
