I have read so much about OC'ing i want to dive into it now, i am just wondering what would be the best parts for a OC'ing machine? I have heard alittle about AMD M chips that have there multiplier unlocked, is this a good route to go? what about these kits i see to unlock a chips multiplier, are they worth it? i was thinkin about a A64 but i dont know what would be best of OC'ing..... 3000+ 3200+ 3400+ Also i have no idea what brand of ram would be best but would pc4000 be enough or should i get somthing higher? I want to use a good cooling system so i can push as much power out as possible, do you recoment separate kits(if so whats the best?) or somthing like this? I wouldnt want to spend tons of money on it but i would like it to have a dramtic effect. =) and last but not least what mobo has the best options for overclocking? i want to have a beast but i like to obtain it while keeping the cost under 900-1000. Also i was planning on throwing in a raptor 10,000rpm drive. Thanks for any help in advance and feel free to throw in anything i missed that i mite need!

edit: I have a graphics card, but if any good OC'ing mobos support PCI express i wouldnt mind upgrading that to! =)

Dude, if you want a beast, you'll be shelling the cash.

The best board right now for overclocking is the DFI nForce 4 Ultra.

Get that puppy paired with some OCZ VX Gold PC4000 RAM and you are set for the fastest PC in the world right now.

If you can afford an FX chip, go for it... otherwise stick with a 3000+ or a 3200+ and overclock that boy till it comes to its knees.

that OCZ is kinda expensive i was looking to stay under a grand... the FX isnt really good for overclocking right? i know it is better in the long run, but i want the fun of overclocking! About all of my other questions any other opinions? so far i am thinkin about that nForce 4 ultra (been lookin at that for a while) and mayb that OCZ, what do you guys think about kingston hyper X ram? I just basicly need to figure out what chip to get, i want a chip that has the potential to reach 2.6 and beyond, but is good for a first time OC'er... Thanks for any help in advance!!!

EDIT: also i have a 3.06ht p4 w/ a gig of ram right now so i deff want to out perform that! =)

you can build a great overclocker for way under a grand!
here is a link to the system i built a year ago and its still running hard!
http://www.american-elite.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=363

i have made only one change since then, i now have a 6800 ultra video card

and im now running a midrange oc of 2355mhz or a p rating of 3448 and i have a lot
more room to 'play' if i want but im running at 38*c which is where i like to stay at idle

you could probably shave a hundred bucks off the price i put out buy buying a much
cheaper case if you want?

right now i am going to be building a backup machine with all the same components that
will be used for gaming only and nothing else and that will be clocked the same or higher!

good luck with whatever way you go and have fun!

That new OCZ ram OCs nicely but you need that little extra shtick that ups the voltage in order for it to run. Also the VX is a bit overkill to pair with a 3000+.

Did you read the recommended motherboard? DFI's nF4 boards DO NOT need the voltage booster seeing as how mine supported 3.2V out of the box and up to 4.0V with the change of a jumper, the boards do not need to be modded or need a voltage booster. How is it overkill? More like its overkill for A64s in general, unless you want the absolute best performance and don't care about the cost.

Can you rephrase that? Are you agreeing or disagreeing?

Oh yeah I forgot about the DFI board, I stand corrected.
