Sounds like that much storage can get expensive. I use idrive and use the 5GB it gives me for free. Only backing up docs and pertinent files. Pics and Audio goes to an external drive. Maybe when funds are right, I'll back everything up.

Carbonite and Mozy are top rated.

Brian,

Carbonite and Mozy are both decent solutions but 100 to 200 Gig of data is a lot of data to back up online on a regular basis.

That brings to mind a couple of questions.

1. Is the majority of the data media related, as in music and or video?
2. Do you have an older pc sitting around or access to an external usb drive?

If the majority of your data is music or video, these are files that really don't change all that much as a rule. An external USB drive locally would be a simple quick solution in that case. You can use the built in Windows Backup utility or any number of free backup programs found online to do this with relative ease and without intervention on your part.

If that volume of data is actually information that changes frequently then odds are pretty good that you're going to end up paying a monthly fee. Amazon S3 cloud services is also an option here for the volume of data you're referring to. Byte for byte, this may be a possibility as well given how much data you seem to have.

The second pc question was with regards to repurposing the pc with something like NASLite or a network share established. Internal hard drives (or external for that matter) are cheap solutions for backing up that much data without a monthly expense.

If the data you're referring to is business related and has any confidential material or personnel data, there are serious security considerations you have to account for as well. Again, a local solution is ideal for this. If you store confidential data online, then you should seriously consider encrypting your information with something like Truecrypt.

100-200GB of data is quite a lot, so you are better off choosing backup services that offer unlimited backups in terms of space. These are getting quite cheap.

Some examples:
http://www.backblaze.com ($5 per month)
http://www.crashplan.com ($6 per month for 1 machine)
http://www.zipcloud.com ($10 per month)

There are also more and more comparison sites, although watch out as quite a lot of them are just spamming to market certain providers. The best one I've found is http://www.bestbackups.com

There are alot of options which you can explore to get a reliable online backup service for your OS. I use SOS Online Backup which i found a great one to rely on. Crashplan is also good!

Beware Zipplan, just like mypcback which was recommended by someone a few days ago and the post got pulled (due to a referral link I think? )

ZipPlan &
JustCloud
Are the same company too for what it's worth.

They're more or less mutli level marketing money scams that lure you in with unlimited space in a "freemium" business model, but then they have ridiculous upcharges for service enhancements such as "Unlimited Upload speed"

And by all accounts, people who have been lured in find themselves virtually unable to get out of it / cancel service.

Just a bit of a warning.

why not get an external drive and do your own backups? probably cheaper, the data is still local and not in the "cloud" somewhere. Lots of free programs that will allow you to do this.

I was in the same boat looking for a secure, affordable online backup solution. Based on a recommendation from another forum I went with IDrive, and I've been satisfied with their service. They use private key encryption so no one but me can unlock my files. And they offer backup for any number of devices without charging you extra per device. I would definitely recommend IDrive if you're looking for security and affordability.
