Best (or good) IDE CDBurner for making CD "Images"?

I've an old 24x liteon burner, it used to make "good" CD Images for about every game that came out (I like to run them Virtually, not physically)... but lately, I can't make hardly any images... I guess the copy protection has gotten better.

I use CloneCD.

Does anyone know what the best Burners are out now-a-days that can read all the new crap they are coding on disks? It's worth buying a new one to me if I can image my disks so I can run them off the HD.

Thanks in advance!

LG is a good one. they exceed many man specs. But other then that.. just make sure you have weak sectors enabled on the clone cd proggie. ))

Yamaha CRW-F1 is completely unimpressed by any copy protection you throw at it and IMO the best CD-burner ever (fast, with cool blue LED, disc t@2 and a large 8MB buffer). Unfortunately Yamaha doesn't make them anymore and they fetch extremely high prices in e-bay. (my brother knows this so he won't let me have his).

I myself have an Aopen drive that works quite well but gets the hiccups with protected audio-cds which the Yamaha doesn't.

EDIT: typo

Do you even know how to image a CD and run it off a virtual drive? Probably not.

I know how to make images but not a virtual disk no. Could you tell me how because that would be helpful here at my house when my bros come over.

CloneCD CloneCD requires a fee if you want to use it more than a month (best $40 I ever spent on Software)... And NO, I didn't use a Crack on it! ( warez...
)

CloneCD has a program called CloneCD Tray in which you can "Mount" your image file as a "virtual" CDROM drive. the OS Totally thinks it's a CD Drive, but it is running from the HD. Totally the way to go with games these days...

With Hard Drives in the Hundreds of GIGs, it's nothing to have a few dozen CD images...

What's better, is you can share the folder with the images and anyone on your network can mount it straight from the share.

There are others as well.... DeamonTools is another.. (don't have a link).

I would go with LG or Samsung too unless you don't care about racket. But check with cdfreaks, rpc1.org, cdrinfo, cdlabs and such for the best info. Also, Alcohol 120% is better than CloneCD in my opine.

If you're looking for just a reader to make the images my Toshiba DVD (1612) has yet to falter. I still use an ancient Lite-On 24x for burning and that never fails either, so long as I use the Toshiba to read.
