I am in need of photoediting software. I know photoshop is good, but there are quite a few other programs out there.

What's the difference between them all, like Roxio's or Microsoft's for example? I would like one with quite a few enhanceing abilities/features and the ability to cut and paste parts of pictures.

So just give me your vote for the #1 Photo editing software. I would probably spend up to $50 or so.

Thanks!

Paint can do that
Have you tried The Gimp if you are on a limited budget? It's free.

Yeah p Paint can do a lot - I use it for many things. I have Photoshop CS 8, and also Photoshop Elements 3. That is a very powerful photo editing program as well. But, my favorite (ease of use and simplicity) is Corel (formerly JASC) PhotoAlbum ver. 5.0.

I've used older versions of Uleads PhotoImpact (ver 4 and 6,iirc) and like that package a lot.

I've also seen the older versions in "bargain bins" (office depot, office max, staples), jewel-case-only racks, and used book stores (halfprice books) for ~$5.
The first one I used was bundled with a scanner -- and I liked it so much, I did a "free-after-rebate" upgrade to 6 (iirc).
I think the MSRP of the older ones was ~$40, but probably could be found for less.

edit: based on what I've read in reviews, it looks like it went down-hill after v6

I think JASC Pro Studio is FAR after MIRat Overstock.com. Just pay S&H... I don't know the version but...

I'd try to get Adobe Photoshop Elements 3 myself. You can find it for about 60$ give or take a tenner. . .

Once you learn this interface, you'd be primed for photoshop. Photoshop is where you'll end up if you get into it.

If you are not a serious photo/graphic editor, you only need Adobe Photoshop Element.

Why you have CS8 and Element 3? I have CS8 and I am not look to lite version like Element 3. PhotoAlbum is like photo thumnail but does not offer what PS CS8 has to offer. I use Easy to use and way very simplicity is Graphic Workshop Professional 2.0

I agree that the powerful Photoshop is way too much for the average person.
I have always liked Corel Photo Paint but thats because I get the old version for free from my dad. He always gets the newest version and writes it off.

You used to be able to get a free version of Jasc Paint Shop that didnt have a time limit.

But the Gimp is probably good enough for a free program. I have not used the Windows version though.

Oh, and the photo editor that comes with the ACDSee suite is not bad either.

I would strongly recommend Photoshop Elements. It's all of $45. Think of it as Photoshop without all the extremely powerful tools/features (read: overkill) that you'll never use. The features that are removed are typically used by folks who, well, let's just say that if they're the kind of multimedia editor that actually knows how to properly use them to their full potential, they wouldn't be asking what software they should be using. I jest, but Elements is cheap and seriously kick ass.

Just a little while ago, Jasc was offering Paint Shop Pro 9 for free download from their site. I'm not going to bother looking, but you might consider checking to see if the offer is still good.

You can also search Anandtech (yes, Anandtech not Google) for Paint.NET which is another free, powerful image editing program.

Ah, I didn't recognize the domain and didn't continue reading the URL. Google needs to be fixed so that comes up when you search for Paint.NET
