Give Photoshop Elements a try. I think it's about $99, which is pretty expensive, but it is a VERY powerful tool. (Similar to PS in several ways.)

I got Photoshop Elements and it works pretty well. Amazon.com seems to have rebates for it all the time too. I got mine for about $25 after rebates.

Paint Shop Pro is a really good alternative also. You should download the demo and try it out.

Another vote for Paint Shop Pro. Photoshop Elements is quite good but I prefer PSP.

i've heard paint shop pro was very comparable to Photoshop at 1/4 the price, but i'm sure there is something there besides the adobe brand to justify the extra cost. What is the difference between Elements and a full Photoshop?

Another vote for Paint Shop Pro! I have been using PSP since version 3 and love all the features and tools I get for just under $100. Simply can't be beat!
