single deck and pays 3:2 on blackjack? or is it 6:5?

Single deck almost always pays 6:5, which is a horrible disadvantage to the player. Avoid at all costs.

yea, which is why I am asking

unless you are counting, does it really matter how many deck shoe you're playing with?

EDIT: according to wizard of odds, it seems to make a small difference

Being a former resident of Vegas, here's my two cents.

The Orleans had some $5/single deck tables, as did Texas Station and The Fiesta. (The latter two are across the street from each other, on Rancho and Lake Mead, 5 min from the strip.)

There are also some cheaper tables but I don't recommend playing them, because they are usually from a muliti-deck shoe, and the players are CLUELESS. <-- Easiest way to lose money at BJ is to play at a table with clueless players. "Why yes, I would like to split these 10's.."

Last recommendation, only play single deck and only sit at third base, the last seat in the dealing order. That way you can do a pretty good job at counting cards, and I rarely left a table without making a quick $50-200 doing it that way.

P.S. The Orleans was my favorite, great waitresses and a high ceiling. The high ceilings helped with the smoke, my nemesis while in Vegas.

A small difference is actually a huge difference, if you know what I mean.

The locations I mentioned pay 3:2 for single deck.

Both those are myths (the first one especially).

One player's style of play doesn't affect the outcome of your hand in any way. I refer you to the Wizard of Odds website for a long discussion about this.

Single deck bj is pretty good if you can find a table that pays 3:2 on bj instead of 6:5. Those tables are extremely rare (I've never actually seen one, but supposedly they do exist).

Elaborate please. How could that matter?

If you are staying at the Venetian, do most of your gambling there and sign up for one of their player's club cards...the comps won't be incredible like old Vegas, but you might get free buffet tickets or something.

I have a Harrahs Player's Club card...I have never made a killing in Vegas, but I at least tend to stay for free and cover my dining expenses in a Harrah's hotel.

And off peak, you can find $5 or $10 blackjack tables, even in the big casinos...in fact, the dealers at the larger casinos tend to be very friendly and helpful...at Paris, I had a dealer give me hints on when to split cards, double down, etc.

It doesn't, but according to popular myth, a player that doesn't strictly adhere to the basic strategy card "throws off the natural order" of the cards, or something like that. I hear people talk about it at the tables all the time.

Myth #2: That third base player is killing me.

The Reason: The dealer shows a weak 5 upcard and all the players including yourself make the right play and stand on all stiff totals. The third baseman, who is the last player to act before the dealer, ponders whether to hit or stand on 16. He hits, the dealer gives him a picture card, and then the dealer draws a 6 to her 15 for a 21, beating everyone. Oh, how you would like to strangle the third base player. If the dummy would have stood like he was supposed to, the dealer would have gotten the picture card instead and broke and everyone would have won. Don't tell me bad players don't effect whether or not I win or lose.

The Truth: It's absolutely true that dumb plays made by dumb players can effect the outcome of a hand for everyone else. But it has been proven mathematically that it is just as likely that a dumb play could result in the entire table winning. The player in the above example could have just as easily gotten the 6, leaving the picture card for the dealer to bust. While dumb plays can upset smart players, it has no mathematical long term effect on a player's expected outcome. You always curse the stupid player that caused you to lose, but do you ever congratulate him when his stupid play causes you to win? If the terrible play of others effects you emotionally so that you start to make playing mistakes, then my advise is to leave the table and play elsewhere.

They take cards the dealer should be getting so that the dealer busts.

I will immediately leave a table if their is a dumb player on it. Or at least try to help them.

The only annoyance I ran into in Vegas last year was that virtually all of the blackjack tables are "Dealer hits on soft 17", which is a slight disadvantage to the player, but otherwise it's pretty easy to find tables. As others have said, avoid single deck 6:5 at all costs. Also, BlackjackInfo.com is a wonderful resource for learning Blackjack.

And their rules / payouts are fine, most multideck (4-6 decks) will have a 3:2 blackjack payout. It's when you get to the single deck ones where you have the 6:5 payouts. Rules, most big casinos on the strip will have the same rules.

QFT

Most places will have a 5 dollar table during non peak times. I personally prefer the single deck blackjack.

Binion's almost always has cheap tables for most games. I always get sucked in by the $3 craps game right near the entrance.

Their reviews are pretty much dead on.

If you're looking for $5 blackjack, Tropicana and Excalibur tend to have at least a few tables around the clock.

Agree with Excalibur. I played $5 tables there the entire time I stayed.

Just stayed there a couple weeks ago. The tables switch to $10 at night for the lowest. $5 during the day though, but they only have single deck and autoshuffler.

DON'T PLAY THE AUTOSHUFFLER, unless you want to lose money. At least, I have horrible luck with those things.

Try Terrible's, at Flamingo and Paradise. Not exactly top notch, but they have $5 tables at night and decent odds from what I remember. If you want some eye candy, walk down Paradise a bit to the Hard Rock -- very nice!! Their tables go to $25 minimum at night though (my info is dated for them, though).

I'll have to look into the Sahara, $2-3 tables sound nice. Playing $10 tables is sweet when you're winning, but you can lose a lot of cash fast in BJ. $5 is a sweet spot for me, I would play a $1 table if I could find it (maybe waaaay off the strip?) the way I bet sometimes I could probably lose $100 at a $1 table in a matter of 10 minutes haha.

Yes, find any $5 dollar table and you're set. Not unless you want to lose a lot in a very short amount of time. Best part is you can risk more anytime you want.

Watch the max bet on those tables though. A 5 dollar table should have at least a 5K max.

Excalibur tables did NOT go that high from what I remember ($1000?), though I didn't go anywhere near the limit.
