best place to buy new Ipad?

I'm looking to buy an Ipad Air when it releases for my wife's birthday present. Where is the best place to buy one? Are there any advantages to buying at the apple store vs somewhere like best buy?

Also, are there any online stores that sell with no sales tax for WA? Someone had told me that apple products are charged sales tax no matter what, I don't see how that's possible though.

There might still be tax for the same reason that the Apple store has tax. If a company has a sufficient physical presence in the state, then they have to charge tax on online orders. That's why in the early days of newegg, everyone was tax free except TN, CA, and NJ the locations of their warehouses. Apple has a huge retail presence, so that's why OP would get charged tax on his purchase.

Having said that, I don't think Amazon is an official Apple retailer so the device would come from a 3rd party and fulfilled by Amazon. Personally I'd rather pay sales tax, walk into a retail store, and go home with my device.

Best deal IMO if you can swing it, would be have Target price-match Wal-mart's $479 price and then use a Target REDCARD for 5% off and would be virtually tax-free...

Did that with my iPad mini when Wal-mart had it for $299

That depends on what state you're ordering from, actually. I live in Pennsylvania, and I've been paying sales tax on Amazon purchases since last year. There are several other states where this is also true.

I've learned to stop caring about sales tax online. Sure it was great to have a loophole in the system for over a decade, but we all knew it'd most likely end sometime. I'd rather have tax collected by Amazon or Newegg than shop from a less preferred vendor.

All we really learned in the process is that Best Buy and others (some now defunct) became a showroom for Amazon, and a lot of local tax revenue was not being paid. While there's plenty of debate over the proper size of government, it's one thing to ship your tax dollars to D.C. and another thing for it to go to local services.

Absolutely. I still shop on Amazon all the time, and I have no issues with paying sales tax. I was just pointing out that Amazon is not tax-free in all states.

It is not really a loophole. You are required by law to report and pay that sales tax. The fact that you don't do that or that it isn't enforced isn't a loophole.

I do agree that I'd rather pay tax and continue to use Amazon (along with Prime) than go to some no name site that doesn't collect tax.
