Id need the following new...case, floppy drive, cpu, mobo, good cooling system for cpu and case, adequate power supply.

I have 3 harddrives here, although I might like to just buy 1 80 gig drive, and not have to remember anything about them.
Right now I also have a 44x cd rom drive , and a 6x4x24 ricoh cd-rw burner. I DEF need a 24x. DVD-ROm drive for normal cds might be chill too. I can spend a lot of money on this system, and I want it perfect.

I am going to be running XP, and probably 512 mb of 2100 ddr ram from crucial.

I just need to know a good mobo, case, etc, since that will be my main backbone for this system.

ALSO is raedon 8500 a good video card? Thanks!

What would u get ?

sure....coolermaster makes some of the best aluminum cases on the market. I had to choose between lian li or coolermaster and the coolermaster won due to build quality and looks. I purchased mine from www.newegg.com for 225.00...and thats with no power supply, they have pictures their online, and trust me they do not do the case justice...when I unpacked my beauty I was in awe...this this is marvelous and very light weight...all my friends love coming and just looking @ this bad boy...its realy that sweet....they also got more cases check out www.coolermaster.com.....as for my mother board...that was the first k266a on the market @ the time when they came out...they had recieved great reviews and were also the cheapest ones out their...I was going to go for the epox but I said, nah, and just went with the shuttle...I realy havnt had any major problems with it, the biggest problem I had was that one of my mem chips were bad on my crucial memory which caused my system to reboot and reset alot...I thought it was the mobo, but when I ran the memtest proggie I found it my mem chip was bad....so I RMA my curcial back to newegg, and they sent me a new stick, and now, I got my system clocked to Cas 2 latency and @ a 139 FSB...nothing major but I realy dont want to OC that much.....other than that this motherboard is rock stable and is now able to last with 0 problems in prime95 torture test for 12 hours, so I figure its all good,

Are you going to be overclocking?

If not, this is my suggestion:

From Newegg.com

AMD Athlon XP 1800+ retail - $225
Shuttle AK31A - $80
(2) Crucial 256MB PC2100 DDR SDRAM - $124
ATi Radeon 8500LE OEM - $179
Turtle Beach Santa Cruz - $65
Western Digital 1000BB-SE 100GB 7200RPM 8MB - $255
Lite-On 24X10x40x CD-RW - $80
Pioneer 16X Slot-Load DVD-ROM - $75
Mitsumi 1.44MB FDD - $9
Chieftec CT1030 - $45
Enermax EG-365VE 350W PSU - $63
(4) Sunon 80mm 39CFM fan - $20
Logitech Z560 4.1 - $140
Hitachi CM721F 19" - $255

Total - $1615 + shipping

This is basically a complete system, excepting keyboard + mouse.

Hard drive - fastest hard drive right now, and couple that with 100GB
Case - exact same as the Antec SX1030/SX1040, except no power supply
Power supply - Enermax PSUs are the best. No questions.
Speakers - Most people would agree that the Z560s rival the Klipsch ProMedia 4.1s, and some (including I) say that they perform better than the PMs
Monitor - flat 19", great screen quality

If you WILL overclock, here is my suggestion:

From Newegg.com

AMD Athlon XP 1800+ OEM - $210
Shuttle AK31A - $80
(2) Crucial 256MB PC2100 DDR SDRAM - $124
ATi Radeon 8500LE OEM - $179
Turtle Beach Santa Cruz - $65
Western Digital 1000BB-SE 100GB 7200RPM 8MB - $255
Lite-On 24X10x40x CD-RW - $80
Pioneer 16X Slot-Load DVD-ROM - $75

Chieftec CT1030 - $45

(4) Sunon 80mm 39CFM fan - $20
Logitech Z560 4.1 - $140
Hitachi CM721F 19" - $255

From Plycon.com

Thermaltake SK6 /w Sunon 26CFM fan - $37

Total - $1642 + shipping

Heatsink - I would have picked the Alpha PAL8045, but it doesn't fit on the Shuttle AK31. The fan - well, you can get a 38CFM Delta, but I didn't know if you were tolerant toward ear-splitting volume levels.

BTW, I wouldn't suggest an aluminum case. They don't improve cooling, and they significantly decrease your wallet's weight.

And to answer your question - the ATi Radeon 8500 is indeed a good card. Generally speaking, it has better 2D clarity than the GF3 Ti500 (some GF3 cards have better), and is less expensive, although the version on the list has a lower core clock than the retail version (230MHz vs. 275MHz), which costs more. I'm not sure about the clock speed of the memory.

With the new drivers, the retail 8500 (275/275MHz) is competitive with the GF3.

Are EPOX mobos good with these athlon xp cpus? I probably dont want to OC this system, I just want something that is fast, and a good performer. Suggestions would help. I really just need ideas on a good case for all this, 7-9 bays or so, power supply, and mobo. The ide devices I think I can figure out. Thanks.

Aluminum cases are great if you move your case around a lot, like back and forth to lan parties and such. They're so damn light, when I first received delivery of my Lian-Li, I swore the big box it was in was empty
