If I needed a 620w unit a Corsair 620 would be near the top of a very short list.

Your title, "Best power supply brand?" Answer, Zippy/Emacs.

Best?? That is a flamebait word when used with any comp hardware.

In addition to the ones already listed:

Silverstone OP's & Zeus
Enermax Infiniti
Xclio Stablepower & Greatpower

If I was looking for a 600W I would personally go with the $130 (@ ZZF) Corsair HX620

OKIA??? - surely you jest... A handful of makers are considered top tier - if you've been awake around these forums then you know who they are. IMO, Seasonic leans too far in the direction of quiet (quite a few brands like Corsair are actually made by Seasonic including most of the new Antec units). I'd prefer they choose a better balance between quiet and cooling. But still they are in the top tier. Zippy Emacs, Etasis (some Silverstone models are made by Etasis), PC Power & Cooling, Delta high end models (OEM only any more). I don't think that Enermax actually makes their branded PSUs any more but they OEM them from decent makers. Silverstone doesn't make their PSUs either, but they do choose top OEMs to make them. And Fortron/Sparkle is still up there for reliability at a low price - they OEM for other brands too: some OCZ (Gamestream), and most AOPen PSUs (generally found bundled with their cases) are fortron-made.

ChannelWell used to be a reliable, reasonable-price PSU maker (mostly OEM) like fortron, but their rep has dropped some of late. And Enhance, who OEMs many models for silverstone, makes good, reasonably priced PSUs too. Newegg has recently started carrying Enhance, but eWiz still has better prices and selection of them - the ENP-5xxxGH series are quite popular and great values with top-line features.

I was waiting for somebody to bite...of course I jest...even though another member of this forum claims on another forum that you and him had to talk me out of getting another OKIA...lololol

Do not press your luck Robert. You have made a fool of yourself over at jonnyguru.com and Badcaps.net. You leave little doubt about your foolish motives here....Galvanized Mod.

The answer is to the thread title is entirely subjective.

If there was a "best brand" there would be no competition.

Some brands do well with price point (without sacraficing quality,) some are more efficient, some have more power, better regulation, less ripple and noise, are modular, aren't modular, have an LED fan, are shiny, are flat black, have sleeved cables.... Not every one's list has the same needs and wants on it, so there is no one "best brand."

hahah ok so I guess I used a bad choice of words. I'm just looking for what you guys think the most reliable power supply is atm for around 600w. Something not too expensive but reliable. Thanks for the suggestions so far.

The Fortron FX-600 is good for the money as long as you don't need to use more than 500W at any given time. Most people (yes, even gamers) don't come close to actually using 300W from a PSU, and prices drop dramatically below the "magic 600W" mark. So are you really sure you need that much power? e.g. the Enhance 5150GH is under $70. at eWiz and sometimes you get free ground shipping too (free ground in effect right now) - the the review on jonnyguru.com. It is very similar to the Silverstone ST50EF-Plus that is reviewed there and look at the Enhance ENP-5140GH which is the 5150's smaller brother.

And here might be a very good buy in a 600W unit:
http://www.ewiz.com/detail.php?name=PS-PWS-26# . It has all the features I'd be looking for in a plain package. It is a Fortron/Sparkle unit rebadged by Chenbro who have a very good rep in the server/workstation enclosure community.

I personally only use enermax ps's because they've been the best I've used. I've got two machines running off liberty 620's and neither has had a power related hiccup. My machine runs off a galaxy 850 and I've got plenty of power to spare.

Best? FREE Ultra X-Finity 600. Reasonably quiet with two 80mm fans in a push-pull configuration. Very good voltage regulation and decent ripple waveform on a scope. Quality of internal components is only fair. Efficiency at nominal load is around 77%.

Some people spend too much $ on a PSU. A single GPU rig should not consume more than about 300 actual watts.

Basically almost any PSU will do the job.
But the question we need to ask is for how long will the PSU do the job?
When the PSU does finally bite the dust will it take other cpomponents with it?

While even a top of the line PSU can take components with it...they are more likely not to than say a generic PSU that comes bundled with a case!!

Well both Zippy and the brand I exclusive use -- PC Power & Cooling are both real fine PSU`s.....ther are many good PSU`s on the market today!!

In fact even Antec has started putting out some well built PSU`s and they appear to have worked through the quality control issues that were plaguing them.

Peace!!!

Guys, please stay on topic and refrain from mentioning crappy psu's. I realize that best is subjective, but when you recommend powmax, okia, deer, etc. then you aren't being serious.

Some of the PC P&C PSUs are the best for PSU-related trouble shooting. (Such as the famous 510 SLI) But I couldn't bear the noise and went with the Seasonic 600W, which I have had no problem with anything I threw at so far. (6 different mobos for Socket 939, AM2, and 775 + countless CPU/memory/GPU)

No one seems to mention Antec True Power series, and reading other threads I have a general impression that they are not really recommended.

I have been using the 480W True Power purchased in January 2005, and 650W Trio purchased in November 2006. Both are working flawlessly.

And the 650W Trio is apparently made by Seasonic, as is the highly recommended Corsair HX series.

Is there a reason for resentment against Antec...?

Antec had a bunch of SP series PSUs that went POOFs. I lost one SP350. Other SP350 is rock solid. No problem overclocking ANY C2D rig.

The main reason for resentment against Antc was in the past there quality control left alot to be desired and at one time on these and other forums Antec was most widely talked about brand... as in people complaining..

I am sure there are others who can be more precise than I can in telling you what exactly was wrong with Antec.
Thankfully it appears as if Antec has dealt with the quality control issues...

Peace!
I re-worded what somebody mistakenly thought was flamebait --I am sure there are others who can be more precise than I can in telling you what exactly was wrong with Antec. -- There is no way this can be considered as flamebait!!!
Also it would be nice to know what mod edited out what I posted because IMO it was not intended to be flamebait!! -- I will not play those games!
Good Luck!!

Edit out flamebait.??

About 6-7 years ago I had a no-name PSU burnout on me and take components with it. After that I swore I'd pay more attention to PSUs =). Anyhow, I started buying only Antecs for a while which did me well until one started acting wonky. I RMA'd it and bought another one, selling the returned one off. The new PSU from them was sketchy in other ways though -- some of the leads fell out of the power plugs! After that I began to look around again. More recently I bought a Fortron which served me well for a couple years. And I just got the Corsair 520HX for the new rig, and I like it very much. It is quiet and powering my c2duo + gf 8800.
